Cash machines that triple charge..

flipfinger

In the year and a half that i've been here pretty much every time I use a cash machine over here I either get duplicate or triplicate charges on my account.  The extra amounts get refunded to my account eventually, but I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem?  It naffs things up for me because each time it happens my bank decides that it's fraudulent, so my card gets blocked until I place a lovely expensive call to the UK to patiently go through the various charges on my account until they're satisfied that each one is ok.. It's made more irritating still by the fact that I have a premier account that's supposed to give me a UK based call centre, but the fraud department is still in one of the ESL countries.. so half the time i'm not convinced they're actually getting what I tell them..

Frustrating is not the word.. just wondering if this is the norm with everyone else?

What machine have you used?. I've used the mobile Aman Bank ATM at the side of the Grand Hotel, with both Visa and Mastercards and not had any problems (up till now - lol).

Husseins

you can use Aman Bank , there are some around Tripoli (Gergaresh Road, Soq el Talat & some gas Stations) i am using these machines and it charged me back for only around 10 LYD per transaction

flipfinger

It's usually an Aman Bank one, doesn't matter if it's one of the ones on Gargaresh or either Souk Thalat or Regatta machines.. Husseins, I think you're misunderstanding me.  I know where the cash machines are, and the bank fee per transaction isn't the problem.  The problem is that each transaction goes through more than once.  Oh yeah, has also happened using the mobile ATMs as well..

I'm presuming that you're getting multiple t/x's showing up on the same date/time?, or are they showing on dates/times when you haven't used the machine?.

Have you had this problem with only the one bank card/account, or with multiple cards/accounts?.

I've genuinely not heard of anyone else having this problem before, as I'm sure that someone would have been on here screaming blue murder before now - lol.

I'm sure one of the regulars will be along soon and hopefully offer some useful advice (other than bring wads of cash with you!)

Cheers

Husseins

Ok, i see now, but it never happened to me something smiler, what kind of cards you are using?

flipfinger

I only use a Visa debit card here, and the transactions are usually the same day and time, and also the same exchange rate (which is how I think the local bank picks up that it's a duplicate).  Just gets a bit annoying having to phone Barclays once every couple of months to let them know that it isn't fraud, and please can they unblock my card (again) lol..

Siddiqui

I have used my ATM cards many times in various Aman Bank machines and so far never had this issue.

Probably got something to do with Barclays card. Have you got another card you can try?

bareskillz

This happens to me about every other time I use a cash machine here.
Happened most recently a week ago, same story I try a few times and my online bank statement shows money withdrawn and then corrections; shortly after which my bank's fraud team block my access. On a positive note, I've never had a false transaction.

I had major issues with Nationwide Building Society last year, trying to withdraw money in general and then dealing with their inefficient part time fraud team.

I've now left Nationwide and moved to First Direct, they stopped my card last week for the same reason, but after talking to their fraud team they have noted on the system and assure me it shouldn't happen again - fingers crossed.

Well, it seems there are always multiple transactions each time when you withdraw money. I am also using Visa card for the same and found Aman bankÂ’s ATM network reliable and never face such issues.

Thanks for that Riz, am actually very much aware of having multiple transactions as this was what the thread was about.. although the question was actually to find out if anyone else was having the same experience...

However.  Very happy for you that you don't have the same problem, could this possibly be because you have a Libyan bank account and therefore it's less likely to happen?
