As well as $100,000 cash in term deposits  I will have $20,000 AUD per year on a rental property in Australia and I have found a great Villa in Canggu with a 25 year leasehold I will pay cash for . The rental income comes to around 17 million per month - easily enough as long as you aren't too into partying.

As a guide, a lot of °µÍø½ûÇø English teachers are on 11 million or so.
Local teachers start at 3 million.

Thanks Fred again for your advice and insight . To live on 10 million rp for a family 4 gives me a great guide to what I can afford and what standard of living I can have . I will be just living by myself and maybe my girlfriend will join me ?  I don,t drink either Fred maybe 1 beer if I go out for dinner . I am mainly moving to Canggu or Seminyac  is to go surfing and have a relaxed lifestyle . I have worked hard enough and want to enjoy life more while I am still fit enough to go surfing . If your girlfriend is Indonesian, she can sponsor you for a 60 day Sosbud (renewable twice), that allowing you to stay in Indonesia for around 6 months.

She can't sponsor you for a KITAS unless you marry, but there are lots of agents with wildly varying prices so shop around. One (sadly) well known °µÍø½ûÇø group offer them at absolutely stupid prices - be very careful not to get ripped off by such people.

The downside is immigration might well take an interest in you as they may suspect you're working. If they see you on the beach most of the day, they'll write that off as a waste of their time and leave you alone.

Leasing is fine and, assuming you do it properly, should have no serious issues.

Why a villa?
Alone (maybe with girlfriend), why such an expensive place when you can rent a house far more cheaply?

Maid - Don't worry about an English speaker because that skill often comes at a premium. Google translate will easily cover the language issue. If you have computers and other electronics, keep them in a locked room when you're out but the maid is in. Our last one stole a Rp20,000 note - not a lot to us but big for her. I let her off without saying anything but trust had gone so she had to go.
Keep temptation out of the way.

Watch out for medical - the °µÍø½ûÇø companies charge °µÍø½ûÇø prices. You can save a lot by shopping around local companies.

Is a WNA with a visa exempt status/VOA/tourist visa allowed to open a bank account (savings account for example) nowadays?

I hope I am not intruding...
Fred, I am a bit curious about how you manage with less than 10 million per month as I am planning to join my wife and kid in Bogor and as much as I tried, I can't seem to find a way below these 10 millions a month (without maid) which seems a bit steep to me still. Are you based in Jakarta?

I do not know Indonesia sufficiently well yet to have a clear idea and any insights would help greatly. 
I do not go out, am not particularly interested with luxury life or whatever and I try to keep from spending uselessly...

Rent for a year with security and rubbish collection 19 million
electricity 1 million or less
water 200,000 or less
Daughter's school 2 million and a bit

The rest is car, pizza, food for home cooking and this that.

I managed about the same in Jakarta area but rents are higher. I'd do it on less if it wasn't for eating out in western food places when I'm at home.

Yes I see that utilities cost about the same. We have higher rent though because of the area where we live... That's actually the main spending together with food somehow as western food is sometimes welcome!
