For the location you can check it out on maps.google.com and search for Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon.

This may work.

So you can see it is outside Beirut, at a rough estimate 20 minutes north on the coastal motorway to the tunnel Nahr el Kalb, then slightly inland. Travelling to Beirut and back during rush hour on this road can be extremely slow. Are you thinking of working or living there - or both?

I don't know the town itself, but have been through the area several times heading to Faqra, Jeita or Sheile and it seems safe.
Maybe someone who knows it better can provide some detail on what it is like.

Thanks so much for your response. I'd be living and working in Zouk Mosbeh so wouldn't have to worry about a rush hour commute every day. It's just nice to know it's not too far from the centre for the weekends though!

Sorry for all of my questions but I wondered if you'd mind me asking another... How did you go about making friends? Since I'd be moving out there alone, I'd make an extra effort to get to know people. In your experience, are there other people around hoping to meet new people and strike up friendships? I've been to some Scandinavian countries where the ice is quite hard to break and would hesitate to make a long-term move to somewhere like that.

The culture here is very unlike northern Europe and much more similar to other Mediterranean areas like Greece or Spain. People have an ease of contact and one person very quickly introduces you to many more which makes things very easy. You may find yourself going out a lot with colleagues which will start you off, or you may want to enrol in some kind of class - Lebanese dialect or some hobby - as a springboard to meeting people.

look about zouk mousbeh,

i think the problem is the traffic arround the rush hours in the morning and at 5 pm.

because sometime afternoon i take the bus with some friends to go to jounieh near zouk because it's close to the sea and there is some bars . i can tell that there is really a lot of traffic arround 5pm.

maybe because al people working in beyrouth and living outside must take this highway.

Zouk Mosbeh is a nice area, just by the beach..
pb is traffic..
i would advise you to live more in downtown beirut!
