07/10/25 For some context, it's worth noting that the United States currently runs a trade surplus, not a deficit, with Brazil. Or at least, it has up to now. Reciprocity is Brazil's policy by law, so that's likely to change. Seems like another case of

The USA has always collected "Duty" on imported items from Brazil, both on new and used items, this includes the shipment of personal items. The threshold value of goods sent into the USA is only $50 US dollars, however declared values under $800 are rarely inspected, or charged. For example, this duty is supposed to be collected by the carrier, say the USPS, on both new and used personal items and gifts.
