Having a second source of income. How important is it in today's day and age?

it is important in life as needs and wants are more of surplus in nature and so it's only with some surplus income is when people are able to make a living of their dreams

Hi Jimmy, Thank u for your reply. Liked what you said about achieving dreams. Though, its sad to see many people dream according to the size of their pockets, instead of increasing the size of their dreams and working towards achieving them.

As the cost of living increases in many places then dual income is a worthwhile thing to do. For many it's a necessity. I am all for it provided there is good reason. Doesn't have to be forever, just don't lose sight of why you are doing it.

In today's world two income families have become the norm rather than the exception. The ever increasing cost of living and the financial demands imposed upon us by day-to-day life or those we assume in order to 'keep up with the Joneses' have seen the traditional view of the stay at home mom taking care of the household, raising the children and taking care of her husband so he can go out and earn the daily bread go the way of the Dodo bird.

Unfortunately we live in an imperfect world and we can no longer afford the luxury of dreaming of the perfect life anymore. So now moms go out to work too, often earning even more than their husbands. The only unfortunate fact that we are really faced with is that as a result many couples fail to make adequate provisions for the care of their children, who in many cases grow up without direction and learning the value system of their parents. They can sometimes be marginalized and turn to antisocial behaviors like crime in extreme cases. Some things we simply just can't blame on the parents, the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the reality in which we live.

We must decide which is better a standard of living below those around you or children lacking the presence of their parents in their lives. Neither of these is good, it's just the trade-off we are forced to make.
