Hi everyone!

midlertidligidanmark

Hi!

My name is Allan, and I'm originally from NYC, just arrived in Denmark in January 2010. I'm studying Danish here until the summer, when I hope to move on to Sweden and study Swedish. My goal is to spend time in most of the Nordic countries and learn their languages, and to develop some level of expertise in all of them. I hope to meet all kinds of interesting people through this site!

Thanks!

Good to hear from you, Pranay, and thanks very much! Many years ago I had a friend who was from Bangalore, and right now three of my schoolmates are nurses who have come from Kerala to live and work in Denmark. Good luck in your plans to live abroad!

hi allen
it's nice to know that there are people from kerala in denmark.
some time before even  i have been planning to work in denmark. but unfortunately many of the european countries was badly hit by economic recession because of which i had take back my plans and hence decided to continue in bangalore. plz tell me about the climate and economy of copenhegan. what are the job prospects for me as software professional.

Right now Denmark is getting plenty of snow, and there has been snow on the ground since November, but this is highly unusual. Winter is usually not so cold, and it rains rather than snows.

I'm sorry I know absolutely nothing about jobs in software. I worked as a librarian, and hope to become an academic. I'm also located close to Ã…rhus, which is Denmark's second largest city and located about 3 hours west of Copenhagen.

Every country here has been hit by the recession, but Denmark seems to be particularly strict about immigrants right now; a few of my Danish friends have said that Sweden would be a much more open place to go.

Enjoy your time there...seems like so many Danes try and get Out of Denmark, but I found it lovely.  I visited Arhus a few times (had a friend there)...very beautiful.

TT & KB: Thanks for your messages!

TT: You certainly have been to a wide range of places so far! I imagine that it's work-related that you have been getting to move every so often... This should certainly be of benefit to your kids, especially if they've been able to learn some of the local languages! A much younger student at the school has been asking me all kinds of questions about the USA, and I am very much encouraging him to go. For many Europeans it is still the "land of unlimited possibilities". Being only about 30 minutes from Ã…rhus, I still haven't truly explored the city yet, so I will do so before my time in Denmark is up!

KB: An Ethiopian/Swedish friend of mine (whom I got to know in NYC) is working and living in Oslo now, so I do expect to get there sometime in my travels, hopefully later this year. Where in Canada are you from? I've only been to Toronto, Montréal, and Ottawa, and have thought of moving to Canada as well. I know I must get out to Western Canada some day... I know it must be a lot easier to live in a place if you already have someone there, but I would still be interested to know how you have found it working there since you moved back to Oslo. It would be difficult at best for me since I know hardly a soul in Scandinavia. But I do hope I can still make Göteborg the next stop on my journey!
