THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWING
Dear All,
Knolwdge can be gain by reading listening observing but knowing is only by passing through it....even a blind man can have a knowledge of a light but its not his experience....

I think what the OP is trying to say is, you can read all the books you like but you know squat until you got there and find out for yourself.
By the way, water is a mix of two gasses.

And if you mix those two gasses in the proper formula that everyone in the world knows, you get liquid water.

Hello Anilkum. Blind people can feel light. Go outside on a sunny day and close your eyes.

Hi Haileyin,
Its not possible to feel the light by a blind person, you can ask even the eye doctor he will say no blind person cannot feel the light....

Anil

And, if you split them the right way, you can run a car on water.
However, to the topic.
Knowledge is useless unless you understand what you know.
A parrot might well say "Pretty Polly" (or unspeakably naughty words if the owner is like me) but it doesn't understand them, just repeats what it hears.

Hello Anilkum. Blind people can feel light. Go outside on a sunny day and close your eyes.
Are you not confused with the warmth of the sun?
When I was 18 I knew everything...at 21 I looked back and thought I knew nothing then but I know everything now....at 30 I realised I was pretty dumb at 21...but was pretty sure I knew everything then...at 40 I thought ...well what a dope the 30yo me was...now I am really in the know...at 50 I looked back again...wow at 40 I was a total smartarse...this is the age to be ...and now at 65 ...I know nothing

When I was 18 I didn't know anything. Does that mean I'll be a senile vegetable by the time I'm old and grumpy?

Dear Joe,
Those who know they wont say that they know ...Gurdjiff at the time of death...people of Athens came and ask Gurjiff you know so much...even all the spiritual leaders of athens they says ....gurjiff replied i was thinking i know but today i come to know that i know nothing...and thats the reason all the spiritual leaders says gurjiff knows...
So your knowledge is not your knowing...

HaileyinHongKong wrote:Is knowledge from not knowing just as knowledgeable as not knowing knowledge from knowing?
Dear Haileyin,
Knowledge = Any information which can be gathered from books,person...etc.
Knowing  = Your own experience which cannot comes from others.
Ofcourse knowledge leads to know but only knowledge is not knowing.
Regards,
Anil
How do you know that your knowledge is more from knowing than from the knowledge of what you know about knowledge? What if you just think you know? Then it's thinking about thought more than what you thought you could think.
Anil,
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWING is you thinking you are playing tennis (like you suggested in your other posts), while I already play it.
My picture says it all, when can we see a pic of yours?

Dear Haileyin,
Knowing is your experience so knowledge can't compare with knowing. If you think you know that is not knowing whereas knowing is a pure experience....just thinking is not knowing...

Anil

@ christine-aaa: Do you have any information to share with the members regarding the title of this thread: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWING ?
to me, the beginning of knowledge (of any particular subject or concept) is not knowing what you do not know...the end of knowledge is knowing you'll never end the pursuit of knowledge (of that subject)
...and having said that...perhaps one way of looking at the difference of knowledge and knowing is that knowledge is the passive state of having it in the mind while knowing is the active state of expressing, experiencing, and doing it...I may have the theology/knowledge of meditation but meditating and enjoying the benefits of it is actually 'knowing' meditation....
nothing really new there.

Hi bernie berida,
What you define is correct but i asked the difference and difference is knowledge can be gained by anyone and it can be given to anyone but knowing is purely one's self experience.

anil
hmm let me guess...Â
knowledge is science, its like law of gravity...
you can go to the top of the building and drop a stone...
you can then know how many seconds it hit the ground by how tall the building and the constant acceleration of gravity...
knowing is understanding what will happen if you jump off the building, it's commons sense.
