American in Mexico, in the Name of Love

alisacooper

Hello, everyone-
I'm a New Mexican-turned-New Yorker who moved to Mexico for love. Blogging since January about my °µÍø½ûÇø experience, I'm continuing to learn how to live and move and breathe within this new world of both magical realism and hard realities, loving every minute of it.

I lived in New York for five years, living in the Village for nine months while I worked in the Human Resources Department at the Metropolitan Opera. Deciding to jump into a new professional direction and expand my living space, I moved to Astoria, Queens, where I stayed for the next four years while working in a private school for boys on the Upper East Side. While at the school, I worked as a librarian (the best job I've ever had), then switching to a position teaching third grade during my final year. I never spent the summers in the city, choosing to study Spanish literature in Middlebury, Vermont and avoiding the humid heat and my un-airconditioned apartment. I love New York very much, miss it terribly some days, and hope to always make return visits as the years progress. I have yet to find a place that equals it in diversity and richness on almost every level--social, cultural, artistic, culinary, etc. I'm always up for singing the city's praises and talking about what it has to offer!
