Hi guys!

Just tried to register my blog (it's fresh!) but it said I had to come back in November. And by then, I'll be residing in Niger - the world's least developed country (hey, at least we're best at something!) where Internet connections are really slow... Not so slow as to unable me to post on my blog, but that will be pretty much were my time on the internet ends...

Anyway, here's the link:

Would love to hear from anyone who's been in Niger!

You lived in Angola?
No matter how many NGO workers I come across, they have seldom pass through my country...

Jo Ann,

Yepyep! I lived in Angola twice. My first mission in 'the humanitarian' field, was actually to your country, so the country and its people have a special place in my heart.

I remember my first mission very well. it was in 1994, still during the civil war. I was so 'green behind the ears' then. I thought would 'go to Africa, do good work, sleep by the campfire in the savanna, look at the stars, hear the lions roar in the background, blalba'.
Instead, as I arrived, they locked me up in a local apartment 'for my own safety' for the whole weekend. RPGs and machine gun fire the whole time in the streets. Hot Humid Sticky Luanda. The first night the guy from the flat above me beat up his wife and kids up to the point I thought he was killing them. The next day, the whole neighbourhood went mad for some football match... I had no clue what was going on, or what I had gotten myself into. Boy, was that a difference from what I had in mind...

Wrote about Angola in and in the short story ..

Next month, I'm going back to Angola for my apprenticeship. I am a student in psychology and I will work with children soldiers and orphans and such.
Don't know what's waiting for me... I'm scared...
Although I've always known what I wanted to do, and I've travelled thoughout the country (mostly Moxico), I will now know for sure if that's what I want to do.

I'll try to read your blog tonight!! :)

Hi from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

I have been in AA for a year now but have lived here when I was very young ( very ,very young oh well just young then).. twenty years ago ( give and take a year or two);)
Never lived anywhere else in Africa yet but who knows the future. Other places I lived include, Rome, Toronto, Zagred , Washington DC and Honolulu. While here I would love to explore as much of Africa as I can - time/money permits.I went to SA last year ( Durban) I hope to go to two or more places before the year ends. Any suggestions? Invitations? Exchange program for adults?! I love the water. Must have a beach!  oky a lake?!  A puddle?!... oky drinking water... but seriously must visit more of the rich cultures.

Viva Africa!!
