Unfortunately, you cannot get a teaching job or an accounting/finance job or any job in CV, unless you can speak Portuguese fluently.

Furthermore, salaries in Cape Verde are quite low. A teacher or accountant will earn about €750 per month and that is considered extremely good pay in this country.

Note that to work as a teacher, you have to take the exams of the Ministry of Education. Those exams are given in Portuguese.

To be an accountant, you would have to apply to the association of accountants, but they only accept Portuguese speakers.

It's best for English-speakers to look for jobs in English-speaking countries.

If you speak/read/write Portuguese fluently, you have a chance. However, this is a tiny, poor country. There is no manufacturing/industrial base here. Unemployment rates are very high. Salaries are very low. Thousands of Capeverdeans leave the country every year to look for work in Portugal.

Does it make sense to you to come here to search for a job in such an economic environment even if you were fluent in Portuguese???

To everyone else who is thinking about posting on this thread, please do your homework BEFORE you ask for a job here. A simple Google search will tell you everything you need to know about the job market in Cape Verde!

This is what you will find in your research:

1. It's a tiny, poor country;

2. We speak Portuguese, NOT English;

3. There are very few if any jobs here;

4. Salaries are extremely low (average is €250 per month);

5. Thousands of Capeverdeans who want work, immigrate to Portugal or the USA to find work.

Consider these facts before posting!

I'm very sorry but I strongly disagree.

Living here for some years I know many people that come to CV without speaking the language and are successful!

The truth is it will be hard, and I do not expect to get paid well.

Make sure you learn the language - it will be a game changer!

Like Mister CVAngelo said the average wages our very low.

Nevertheless, there are opportunities, look for foreign companies that invest in Cabo Verde.

These will be in the tourist sector mostly, but they also need people to do accounting.

Melia - Spanish/English company language

Riu - SPANISH is the company language for HQ if you do not speak it do not apply for an accounting job

TRG - UK company English is a MUST for all employees ....
