Mobile Phones

Hi there,

has anyone got any advice about mobile phones in Tamale.  Is it better to take your own and get a local SIM card or get a phone and SIM out there?

How do tariffs compare? especially phoning, facebooking, skyping back to UK?

Or can you get MIFIs at sensible prices?

Thanks

Richard

Hi

I have bought my Samsung phones here since I came to Ghana but if your phone is unlocked then you can use it here with a local SIM. It depends on how long you are staying but if it is over 90 days you will need to get a Non- Citizen ID to purchase a SIM. If you are staying less than that you can get it with a passport.

I can't really compare charges with the UK as haven't lived there for ages but when I go on holiday I know I can buy data for about £10 which is around 200 cedis now.  We use Telecel(Vodafone) and pay 400 cedis for 195 GB and that lasts the two of us a couple of months but we don't stream anything. You can get MiFi's from the various Telcos - if they are in stock. Not sure if Tamale will have them so would purchase one in Accra before you travel
