UK Birth Certificate for UK man born in 1960

SudoNym

I lost my official birth certificate.  The UK government doesn't seem to make it easy to get a replacement copy.  I was born the son of a UK national in Nairobi, Kenya - a few years before independence - and the birth was recorded by the assistant Registrar-General.

Where can I order a replacement copy of the birth certificate?  The GRO in UK says they don't have those records. I looked through microfiches from the RG 36 collection and didn't find records like that.

Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
