Cost of Living in Kenya in 2021

Cheryl

Hello everybody,

We would like to take stock of the changing cost of living in Kenya, particularly in your city or region. The aim is to measure the impact that the health crisis may have had on your expenses.
This will help other °µÍø½ûÇøriates on the spot and all those who would like to relocate there in the near or more distant future.

> What is the price of a property rental in Kenya? What about buying a property?

> How much does petrol cost or how much does it cost to use the various public transport services?

> How much do you spend on average on your weekly groceries in Kenya? Have you noticed a change in the price of staple foodstuff?

> What is the price of your health insurance? How much does seeing a general practitioner or specialist cost?

> How much are your children's school fees? What about the cost of childcare?

> How much do you spend on your regular bills (water, electricity, mobile phone package, internet subscription etc.) on a monthly basis?

> What budget do you set aside for your leisure activities in Kenya? What is the price of a cinema or concert ticket? How much does a subscription to a gym cost?

Do not hesitate to indicate any other price changes you may have in mind.

Many thanks,

Cheryl,
°µÍø½ûÇø team

Hi Cheryl,

As per my view,
a) What is the price of a property rental in Kenya? What about buying a property?.
- Price of property rental varies from place to place in Nairobi, but it has come down a bit to sustain the business and to open new business. Similarly buying a property also varies from place to place but as per my view, the prices are down to buy a property, however there are options also available like buying property in easy installments and flexible timings to pay the amount.

> How much does petrol cost or how much does it cost to use the various public transport services?
- Petrol cost varies depending upon the cost of importation or flexibility in the international pricing per barrel of the Petrol cost however the cost of transportation especially using UBER and BOLT are offering concessions and free ride and discounts on regular travel to promote the business in this Pandemic Time.

> How much do you spend on average on your weekly groceries in Kenya? Have you noticed a change in the price of staple foodstuff?
- As an °µÍø½ûÇø, my weekly groceries spending did not affect much to me however I can see Holiday season sale and extra point earning on regular purchase from Super markets.

> What is the price of your health insurance? How much does seeing a general practitioner or specialist cost?
- It did not affect much, The doctors are taking the same fee as before. No change in it.

> How much are your children's school fees? What about the cost of childcare?
- No comment on this as I am living alone, so I have no idea on school fees and cost of child care in Nairobi.

> How much do you spend on your regular bills (water, electricity, mobile phone package, internet subscription etc.) on a monthly basis?
- I am living on rent in a house but I have seen my house owner much worried about the regular bills (water, electricity, phone package n internet) on a monthly basis besides she always has a fear that I may not leave her house as this is her main income. (I gave USD 500/- as rent inclusive of everything for a single room with a small kitchen)

> What budget do you set aside for your leisure activities in Kenya? What is the price of a cinema or concert ticket? How much does a subscription to a gym cost?

- Cinema tickets in Nairobi ranges between Kshillings 600 to 800 but I did not go to any cinema since March 2020 here in Nairobi. Gym subscription depends on the quality and services of a Gym in Nairobi however the Gym where I used to go cost me Kshillings 9000 per month.

Thanking You
Warm Regards

Fardin.
