This looks really interesting.  Thanks Rocko.

A morning at the reopened fish market, followed by a browse around a big boat.  Nice to have something to look forward to!

Hello Rocko :)

To raise more awareness for the Logos Hope Floating Book Fair, i would suggest that you also post an advert under Libya classifieds by selecting the Community section and the Events, Leisure and Activities sub-section.

Thanks for posting Rocko. How do I get to this ship? I mean where in the port will it be docked and what will be the timings? If any body has any information please post here.

admission is free as far as I know, I will ask about opening times (I know the official opening ceremony was yesterday at 4pm, and the departures are always at midnight so that could be nice to watch)

It's docked at minaa al sha3aab, which more or less opposite the Radisson. It's a bigass white ship with 'LOGOS HOPE' written on it so you really can't miss it.

It has really interesting stuff on board, aside from the books there's the seminars and round table discussions etc. There's also a nice lounge and theatre place too - but ofc there are some places which are unopen to the public visitors.

It has about 450 people on board (can hold up to 850 at any one time) from about 45 different countries. Libya's the first Arabic port it has docked at. It's in association with waatesemu charity for domestic violence.

edit: opening times from 10am-2pm and 4pm-10pm

Thanks for the info. Sarah :)

Rocko

SarahMk, I actually got this info while searching on the Ghadames Festival you posted a few days back :D So i got to thank you instead. Sadly, I can't afford to take a 3 day holiday from work :(

Had a friend who dropped by today to the Logos Hope area. She said there were swarms of people and advisably to go on a week day morning instead, adding that today there are some VIPs officiating it (again?) not sure. I guess they have some performances by crew staff as a cultural exchange thing hence the VIPs.

Opening hours as stated by Sarah and no one can miss the big ass ship docked opposite Radisson Hotel. :)

See you guys there!

Hi Sarah & Rocko. Do you know if the book fair will be open on Friday morning? Hopefully it should not be too crowded on a Friday morning :)

Genie

Ty Sarah n Rocko!

visited the "LOGOS HOPE"..yes, its a big white ship..You can't really miss it! I was expecting it to be crowded but there was hardly any rush..Purchased books [fiction and cookery] and a key-chain [souvenir]..Not a great deal of variety under fiction though.. Loads of option under cookery ...Some fitness books as well...I think they have more options for kids...Anyhow, am gonna be good for a month now! Also, you can leave a message for the captain, which I did wholeheartedly :D The best part is-> At the end of the day, I got to eat chocolate brownies!

I managed to visit the book fair yesterday ... mostly non-fiction for adults but plenty of books for children ... if you have children under 10, you must visit the fair :) ... the books are reasonably priced as well ...

I'm not actually sure, from what I understood from the crew members they said Friday was their day off. But I'll double check for you.

I'd really encourage everyone to stop and chat to the volunteers.. they're so friendly and open, they were the highlight of my visit :)

From Ecuador? I always say that Mexicans are friendly but misunderstood people.
