With regards to your post, I know a company (forgot their name) they are in the process of bringing BB services to Libya, they've got a contract with Almadar so you will need that sim.

One of these is open for misinterpretation and deserves a bit of good natured p*ss taking, the other clearly isn't and gives "mofos" little room "to spit their laughter".

I have a US blackberry (Bold 9650) through Verizon, the largest US mobile phone provider.  Verizon has a contract with Al Madar for telephone and text.  My phone and text messaging worked well in Tripoli.  Unfortunately, however, the data service is not available through Al Madar:  they simply don't provide it yet.  Thus, you can't get email, podcasts, etc. -- or at least I couldn't when I was there over the summer.  I'm back in November and will let you know if anything has changed.
