Receiving gifts in parcels from oversea

mail61

Hi,

We will move soon Mauritius!

Friends and family soon want to send us some presents for birthdays and co.

What are your experiences with customs and taxation with small gifts shipped from Europe or other countries? Any tips?

Thx,

Jan

Hello, the prices for packages from Germany to Mauritius are already high. We received a package for our birthday, which cost the sender just under €60 and here, as the recipient, another €15.

The package was the size of 2 shoeboxes and will be completely opened by customs after arrival here on the island to exclude potentially dangerous goods.

The package was about 4 weeks on the way. In the end it probably depends on the content whether such a shipment is worthwhile, after that the customs duties will probably also be based here, but we have clearly decided that it is not worthwhile, although you cannot be sure whether the package will be delivered arrives I can't give you exact fees or costs and we have the feeling that a lot of things are decided arbitrarily here, including when setting costs/prices/fees.

Kind regards

STEFAN

If you order something online, let's say a laptop or other electrical device, you have to register with the ICTA portal and apply for importation.

Only then will you get the goods delivered, as they will be parked at customs or the respective supplier until this registration has been confirmed by you with a code that you will receive from the ICTA registration.

Just a little additional information if this option is an option for you.
