Sunday building work regulations

graemewilliams

Recently moved into rental property at Trou-aux-Biches. Just after moving in work started on land immediately behind the property. Taking the weekday noise as the building work needs to progress. However, 8am this morning, Sunday, the noise started again. We need at least one day of respite from the noise.

Does anyone know the legalities of Sunday building work?

@graemewilliams

Hello,

There’s no explicit national law that outright bans building or construction work on Sundays.

However, noise disturbances, including from construction might fall under environmental law. I am not sure though that the environment police can act though as  :

Between 7am and 6pm, noise levels must not exceed 60 dB, allowing daytime activities to take place in a way that respects the neighbourhood.

After 21:00, the permissible noise level is reduced to 50 dB, promoting an environment conducive to rest.

I would suggest that you opt for a diplomatic approach and have a conversation with the site supervisor or manager so that they don't work on Sundays or find some solutions that suit both (you and them).

I believe there are no specific Sunday regulations - it falls in with the rest of the days.  The restrictions are not specifically to do with construction work  but rather, noise levels.

Max permitted level in residential areas at different times of day:

07:00 – 18:00 - 60 dB

18:00 – 21:00 - 55 dB

21:00 – 07:00 - 50 dB

Hope this helps a bit. tbh it's annoying when it's 7 days per week.

PS I was writing this at the same time as the previous poster it seems! :)
