A lot will depend on where you want to live (on the coast or inland), but there are some estate agency websites that will give you a good idea of the range of accommodation, but a studio/1 bedroom apartment should be available from Rs10,000 per month.  Rs20,000+  (and possibly less) should include a shared pool (if at the coast).  With regards to food, you will find info on this website about cost of living.  Restaurants are at all levels of prices so a lot will depend on what you wat to eat.  Supermarkets also have hot food counters.

With regards to buses just be warned that they often take indirect routes to get from A to B.  At peak times they are crowded and you may not get on the first one.  Also they do not run late so you may want to chose a studio/apartment within walking distance to shops and restaurants.

If you do not already a job offer or have the right to reside in Mauritius and plan to work here, I suggest you look up the government website on occupation permits and working in Mauritius.

1.Stay in a single unshared studio room (economic/middle class level) - - 7,000-13,000 depending on region
2.Eat 50% out side and 50% cook myself - +- 6,000 depending on what u cook and where you eat
3.commute by bus - average like 40 per trip
4.use high speed internet - 1000-2,500
5.use a basic health insurance - no clue

So about 25,000 i would say.

It also depends if you like going out or not. The buses stop very early in the evening, so you have to take a taxi and your transport expenses will get much higher then. I have roughly the same lifestyle as you except I realised I like a bit of fun sometimes and at weekends and I like clothes too ( I am not a man , so for me 40,000 rs is a minimum. I eventually bought an old car because at the end I couldn't bear taking the bus anymore. I thought I would content myself with a simple life after so many decades in France my expectations are higher.

Is the above info still valid  today? Or did the prices change a lot?

My needs:

- Eating out all the time (local food, western stuff once in a while)
- Need a studio or 1 bedroom
- Shared pool is a must.
- Would like to live somewhere near the beach, walking distance from shops and restaurants.

How much would this cost monthly? Would 30-40K cover it?

Which currency? And is that 30 K per year?
How about transport? Car, motorbike, public?

What I had in mind is 30-40K MUR / month. My needs are slightly different than the original poster!s, but similar.

I don't need a car, I don't have a driving license. A motorbike would be great later (maybe I would rent one), but for now I have to rely on public transport or uber.

However, travelling around the island is not that important for now.  What matters is having access to the beach and living close to shops and restaurants, One bedroom./ studio is enough, provided it's good quality and has access to at least a shared pool.

You can live very very comfortable if you have £50000 per month at  your disposal. Remember an average mauritian gets by with just Rs 20000 per month with an ok lifestyle.
This does not include any rents or car repayments. Live outside the seaside towns and you can travel whenever you like and save loads of money. The seaside towns are crowded with mostly South Africans who do not mix with locals.There is a lot of local unspoken racism which exists in Mauritius which people do not like discussing.You are better off living anywhere near the city or villiage with locals.
