3. What justification do you want from me if my friend transfer funds to my account? I am ready to provide. Is there any upper limit of funds for my friend? Will I be able to use this money once it reaches to my account or you want to put it on hold for any reason?

Anyone with real info ? Would be curious to know whether it is possible. Please share information on the forum itself for the benefit of members.

yes I have just opened a bank acc with Absa did the application online and then just had to meet with them to verify documents.
should you not be able to get to Mauritius I will be able to put you in contact with an accountant who could apply for this for you for a fee.

For the benefit of members if you open and account with Absa and get verified through an accountant and not the bank, be prepared to be questioned by the bank is you receive or send amounts over Rs 30000. They can and WILL put your account on hold and freeze it till you can confirm that money is not laundered.

I have been trying to open an ABSA account remotely from the UK. ABSA have been very helpful but due to money laundering rules require a lot of documentation which needs to be certified as true copies, which is not unreasonable.

For the record, in order to apply for an ABSA joint account account remotely, I was asked to provide certified copies of:

Passports
Marriage certificate (for joint account)
Last 6 bank statements
Last tax returns
Utility bill (for proof of address)

Unfortunately my UK bank was not willing to provide the necessary certification for copies of my last 6 bank statements (they stamped them, but would not sign and provide contact information for verification) and I didn't want to pay notary fees for these as well as the other documents required, which all adds up.

So I have settled on having to open an account in person once I arrive in October and have no complaints about ABSA. However they still want to see a marriage certificate for a joint account!
It is my UK bank that I am disappointed with. I'll have to use international bank transfers to pay the estate agency fees, house deposit and rent initially.
