@jd221279
I am planning to get married next month and at the moment I am being given the runaround and its so stressful, your advice seems to be the only clear advice.
I am also looking for a lawyer as my fianc矇 is not very helpful when it comes to documents ect. I will be in Morocco only for 12 days I am hoping its enough to get approved and married. I am Portuguese but live in England. Could you please send me the contact details for the lawyer and translator please.
@jd221279
Thank you very much for this information. Can you please send me the contact details for the translator and lawyer please.
@jd221279 that was very helpful, I'm hoping to get married soon and I cannot wrap my head around it
I was just wondering if anyone has had to get a certificate of islam?
if so, how do you get one in Morocco? What is the cost?
@laurencej96 This is required for non Muslims. Most adouls can issue the certificate of conversation to Islam. You should ask your spouse here in Morocco to double check yours can do it but most do. **** you are fully prepared before coming to Morocco with your documents and assisting with the formalities here in Morocco including Certified Document Translations and In Person Assistance for Mixed Marriage in Morocco.

Salam,
I am a pakistani, living in germany, i need to ask that
- The original divorce certificate is enoug or it must me attested by mofa ?
- and all the other doucmetns also needs to be attested by mofa (pakistan) or originals are enough ?
@Muhammmad hi Muhammed. The orignal documents you have do not need anything further. They are already legalized and original from your home country.
The documents you will need to bring is your birth certificate, letter of employment and divorce certificate.
The Pakistani embassy in Rabat can issue police clearance certificate (criminal record) and your Affirmation to marry.

@jd221279 hi happy to see your success story and would like some advice. My mother in law met a morrocan man a year before lock down she has been to visit 3 times since and has had a long distant relationship via what's app. He applied for visa for the UK and it was declined. She is supposed to be going out there to stay with him in May he has now told her that she cannot as they have to be married so she must stay in hotel. Is this true? He has had over a year to tell her this but now tells her 4 weeks before she goes. The family think he is stringing her along and always has but she is so confused. Now he wants her to marry him and live with him but if she not allowed to stay with him how can she. Can you advise please. Many thanks

Hi, well in some sense this is true. The laws are clear unless youre married legally and its recognised by the kingdom of Morocco. An unmarried couple unless there are both foreign citizens. Are not allowed to live together until they are married.
that being said if the family permits she can stay with his family if he lives with them but this should be kept private and not revealed to the concerned party at the time of getting married.
hence why, he is advising for her to stay in a hotel or an apartment alone.
keep in mind if renting or staying in a hotel and if they are unmarried evidence will be needed to prove that your married and it can be reported to the police without your knowledge
hope this clarifies your questions and the family concerns.

Once the court approve the marriage, does a time limit apply to the marriage contract being signed? Or can this be done whenever?
hi all. i will be getting married soon and she will join me in the UK after. i wanted to ask, once the Adoul performs the marriage, does he give us the marriage certificate, and we can take that to the UK Embassy to apply for her visa, or does the Adoul send the certificate back to the Court and we need to wait for the Court to send us the marriage certificate before we can apply for her visa? thanks
@laurancej96 i believe its 3 months. but i'm sure someone here will confirm
@MrT786 When the court approves the marriage the adoul will write the marriage contract firstly in his special adoul book, where they write all the marriage contracts they perform. For the adoul purposes.
You will be requested to go to his office to sign your marriage contract in this book. At that time the adoul will ask about any conditions of marriage which will be included in the marriage contract.
From that moment you are married and he will issue your with a special paper, like a receipt with his official stamp confirming the marriage.
You are officially married from this point forward.
In my personal experience and others. at the time you sign the marriage contract in his special book he may ask you to sign 4 blank papers where the contract is going to be typed up on. Then he just prints the contract on those papers that were pre signed.
Other adouls may require you to sign the contract in person after they get it back from the court. You can ask before choosing which adoul to work with how they do things.
After this he will have the marriage contracted typed up and will send that back to the court for final stamp.
Then a return visit back to the adouls office when they contact you to collect the marriage contract.
The process to get your official typed up marriage contract and sent to and back from the court can be done all in a week or up to 1-2 weeks. It varies on your adoul.
You will need to wait for the official marriage contract to use it for immigration / visa purposes. Additionally you will need to get the marriage contract translated to English using a moroccan certified translator.
When it comes to adouls it's always worth shopping around and confirming with them the time processes for different things. Some are more closely connected to the court then others and can make things happen faster. Just make sure you are happy with your adoul before choosing one and the price is right.
Good luck and congratulations on your marriage!
Quick question guys, for the trip to Rabat does your partner to be have to join you? This is not for the U.K embassy its for the Moroccan foreign office.
@MarriageInMorocco thank you for the info. its very helpful
@Mo Nesta no. Your partner doesn't need to join you for this part.
For those that are going with their partner, only the foreigner can enter - the partner can't go in and must wait outside.
@MarriageInMorocco thanks for the reply.
Hi there .
The letter of non impediment, does that need to be obtained and apostiilled before arriving to Morocco or do we get that from the embassy in Rabat?
Kind Regards
K
@janinewhy13 hi can i ask for what reason the visa was declined?
@jd221279 can u please give me the link for criminal record
@Fati93 the link is
However if you are in Rabat it can be obtained in person on the same day if you apply early enough.
In our experience its more reliable applying in Person rather then online.
@KRz you need to get the CNI from the UK (your local Registrar will provide this). needs to be Apostilled and then translated before submission.
@everyone I have another question please if someone know can my fiance convert to islam in uk and get the certificate from there too before he come to morocco ?

@jd221279
hi thanks for this article very helpful it is not an easy process. We have delayed due to Covid and still planning reading so tedious.
i am British ( female) , do I need my CRB basic from UK?
what about Moroccan Criminal Record Certificate, is it for my partner or myself .
i appreciate your reply and help in advance
@dwlaw324 passport will need to be verified at the british embassy in Morroco. (Rabat or Marrakech) . you can present your CNI to them as well (will need to be apostled in UK).
@maali19 you will need a criminal check from the UK (ACRO or DBS). and also a criminal check in Morocco. you can order this on line before you go, and they will have it ready to pick up.

@ancillamcpherson
The main question is "can your fiance get a visa and join you for a marriage in the UK"
If he already got visa for any European country, that should be easy. If he did not, then you have to evaluate very cautiously her real chances to get one, as any refusal might make the process more complex after that.
The advantages of a marriage in the UK is mainly to have a secular marriage. As a woman (I'm assuming you are) you need to be Jewish or Christian to marry a Moroccan, or convert to Islam, because you cannot make a non-religious marriage. The disadvantage is that such a non religious marriage will not be legally recognized in Morocco. If you plan to have children, you'll have to make a Muslim marriage one day or another.
If you are a man, you have to convert to Islam to marry a Moroccan.
Converting to Islam would have impacts on your properties and inheritance in Morocco.
At the end, if you can do it, I would recommend to marry in the country you intend to live afterwards.
