living in Durban without car, possible??

kn232

Hi all, I have a job offer in Durban, work is around the City Hall block. I'm not really a driving person, would like to seek some updated opinions on living in secure neighborhoods which can allow "safe commute" between work and home, by public transport... only living by myself

Previously have lived in Germany and the US for some 7 years in so-called dangerous cities like New Haven CT and Rochester NY. A bit worried about the safety and surroundings in Durban...

looking forward to hear some tips from yall!

thanks:)

I lived in Durban for several years without a car.  I was a child at the time, but without transportation nonetheless.  I did a great deal of walking and bicycle riding without being murdered so much as once.

In my opinion, South Africa is not a country you can live in without a car, public transport is not safe and barely there.
Unless you work/live in walking distance (less than 1Km) it's alright, other than that you need a car for everything.
