Need advice

ujustu4u

I am 50 years old medical doctor from USA. I am still in active medical practice. After 20 years being daily routine, I would like to retire very soon within next 2 months. I an thinking about moving to Cambodia ( I considered first to Belize,Thailand and Honduras).

I like to get more information and what is life likes in Cambodia. I am not a rich guy. As long as find a decent place and some basic acceptable amenities I will be okay. I never been to Cambodia.

I would like to get all the advice as much as I can.

Thanks

Tom

Just come over and see for yourself, great place to live, if you can handle the environment.......only one way to find out.Book your ticket and come and enjoy yourself.Experience all the seasons, think there are only two.....Hot and dry....Wet and slightly cooler. It depends on what you are after and only you know that...Cheap as chips to live, beautiful people, don't cross that line, unless you have a friendly power in your pocket, money talks. Your profession is greatly needed here. You will fit in well....Just make sure you are fit and healthy,to cope with the heat......Just drink more Cold Beer, being an Aussie, its a life blood.... just put that foot out the door......

No problem getting a long term visa. Visa on arrival, make sure you take the Business Visa option.Up to one (1) year, multiple entry.Easily extendable.Costs vary for 1 yr Bus,,,about US$250, depending on who you know....where you get it.You gotta love Cambodia...

You'll want to do enough research before you rush your way here though. There's a guy who rushed here with the wrong expectation about things and ended up hugely disappointed and flew back with a hole in his pocket. Just make sure you understand that Cambodia is NOT your home country, and you can either adapt to the lifestyle here or pay a premium to live like you did back at home. Also, it is a developing country with signs of poverty everywhere. (Though I'm sure it will change soon.) If you can't handle that kind of thing, don't bother. I'd say pick a copy of Lonely Planet or something and read up about the place first (which was what I did, so I was quite prepared for some of the less pretty things here).  And unless it sounds like your cup of tea, don't rush into things. On the whole, though, I think it's a nice place, and there're plenty of retired dudes here, so you won't be alone. Good luck. :)

very good advice.  I visited Cambodia 2 times before moving here.  Only thing I will say about that is, visiting is much different then living here.

So much to learn on a daily bases.  You must be willing to accept this way of life and leave what you knew and had behind, or like the other post said, pay a high price to have the same as you left.
