The U.S.Dollar

Just curious if the present situation with the dollar will have an impact on the cost of living for ex-pats in Cambodia for the foreseeable future.

Well according to whatever financial experts you read, the USD is either 1% up for March 2023 or down 2% since September 2022. To affect our COL here it would have to move a darn sight more than that, and even something as drastic as a 5% movement against the Riel would have marginal effect.

The exchange rate has been between 4050 - 4100 riel to the dollar, for a long time.

Hardly having any effect on cost of living.

Cheers

Not yet maybe but it will, the USD isn't going to magically retain its purchasing power in Cambodia while losing 10-20% of it's worth annually everywhere else.

If the USD/Riel exchange rate hasn't budged much it just nesns the Riel is going down the crapper at the same rate.

Not been in Cambodia long enough to have any real experience of price inflation but Vietnam is running al least 10% inflation for most essentials. Depends what you personally need to buy of course but stuff you actually need aint getting cheaper anywhere right now.

What about the rental rates in the foreseeable future with the Dollar?

There seems to be a lot of oversupply here generally, and I don't see foreigner numbers returning to pre covid levels anytime soon, so I doubt rent prices are going to increase much, or at all. Personally I think some places are currently overpriced (parts of Phnom Penh) but there are thousands of decent apartments in Siem Reap for basically peanuts. The Khmer24 website is handy to get an idea of prices for a rents and a lot of other stuff. Some of the rent prices advertised on °µÍø½ûÇø.com are decidedly optimistic
