Closing a passbook savings account

Hello,

I opened a passbook savings account in 2012 at BOC.聽 I would now like to close that account and get the funds out.聽

In 2017 I attempted to close the account but it was a non starter as they identified an error in my birthdate on my US issued Passport.聽 I was also told that I needed to return to the branch that account was opened at to close the account.聽

I am a US citizen, never employed in China, English only speaking.聽

I'd appreciate any information on successfully navigating this situation.
