Western shops- Beijing?

R-Mac

Hi there,

Currently I am in Shanghai, however am moving to Beijing in May :)

Question is - What type of western shops are there? In Shanghai there is City Shop, Carrefour, M&S..... plus others. Are there similar stores there?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hello R-Mac,

I hope that other forumers will share some addresses with you concerning western stores ;)

Beijing has Carrefore and City Shop. Also Jenny Lou's and April Gormet are good for western food items. You should have no trouble.

enter Tom Jones ....but more, much more than this,....in addition to the above:

BHG
Itoyakado (more Japanese than Western)
Lion Mart
Lohao (organic)
Lotus
Metro
Nicks Mart
Ole
Tesco
WalMart
World Health Store (nutritional supplements and vitamins)

However, in order to survive most of the international chains are targeted at the local consumer, are not the same as "at home" and are not particularly °µÍø½ûÇø friendly.

The only ones that (I think) primarily target the foreign consumer are Jenny Lou / Jenny Wang (long story there about two sisters), April Gourmet, Lion Mart, Nicks Mart and the World Health Store.

Jenny lou is great!

Thank you for your posts :)

I've found an April Gourmet so far, which is still pricey but much cheaper than Shanghai. I have a chinese supermarket nearby too, so I think food shopping will certainly not be an issue :) There's even a french bakery nearby as well.... I don't think it bodes well for my diet :/
