There are lot of mobile brands with very different features and may be you can tell us more, which technological features you would like to have!

However, meanwhile you can check this , it contains all the details/features of almost all mobile phones which is widely available everywhere.

Hi James,

I think i will offer my two cents.
What should be helpful in my humble opinion is the mobile phone system here. Its like prepaid phone in the states. They have monthly plan too. But no one really use it as far as i know. So you basically buy a sim card with the phone company. Fill the money/ fees up like at a machine similar to atm or at any grocery stores like shop. Quite a few of them everywhere. Then you use it until the money runs out.
And if you carry that phone out of the city where you get it, you can't recharge it anymore and the call get super expensive as it become two ways long distance call.
all the phones here are not subsidized like in the states. So my advice is to get whatever phone you already have if still good enough to use it. Unlock it and bring it here.
People here are crazy about iphone too (so iphone is quite popular) and it is like 7000 RMB which is like 1000 usd. But I am hearing the iphone 4 from US can't be unlocked for Chinese network. The lower model of iphone should be fine but make sure they are unlocked.
you will see most of the goods ( that we normally see in US) are actually more expensive here. Its weird coz they are all made in China...lol. I was told its due to the heavy tax on foreign brand. So unless you want to use all Chinese brands you should get your favorite brand clothes, sneakers, pants, underware and whatever else. The Chinese brands are not bad but you know you get used to the stuffs that you normally use.

Anyway, i think my two cents getting too long... good luck.
