New to Nantong...

Kerryjn1

Hello there,

I moved to Nantong from Australia about 3 weeks ago and am yet to really meet anyone to socialise with. I'm working in a middle school just off Haonan Road, not far from the Captain's Bar etc. Would be keen to meet sometime.

Cheers,

Kerry

Hi Kerry,

I lived in Nantong last year. There are many °µÍø½ûÇøs in Nantong with a lot being in the shipyards or others who teacher English. I'm now living in Suzhou but will often being in Nantong catching up with old friends from time to time. In fact I was there last weekend.

If you know of Auchan in Zhongnan district (near the sports stadium) you will find many western frequented bars there. I recommend you check out Hideaway bar and the Victorian bar. You will find friendly English speaking staff and many °µÍø½ûÇøs there. Hope this helps.  I hope you settle well in Nantong. Any further info don't hesitate to PM me.

Hi,

Thanks for your message and the information.  I actually went to that part of town on the weekend, near Auchan.  I went to the O Bar, next to the Victorian.  It was good. I have met one or two °µÍø½ûÇøs who work at the port but no other teachers, strangely.  Oh well, in time.

Where are you from?  Are you also a teacher?

Cheers,

Kerry

Yes, I too am a Teacher. In honesty I didn't really meet to many teachers in Nantong. They tend to live and work down town in the major language centres or at Universities. I was based in a kindergarten there last year way out by Langshan.

O Cafe was never a big favourite of mine. I found the management to be rather rude and unfriendly to customers. Hideaway and Victorian are far more welcoming places. You should also try out Miss Pancake (near Auchan). Its very reasonably priced for food.
