PNguyen2012

I am new in the Suzhou area.  Just wondering any good bars and pubs to go to for some fun?  Any recommendation is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

I went there last year and stayed for the weekend. Went to this bar with live music on a sat night, but I don't really remember the name! damn. I think it's something with Blue. Anyways, they have pool table inside, Philippino band that plays pretty good and there's always a good handful of crowd (foreigner mostly).

Thanks.  I found this website that has good info on Suzhou and it is in English.  Very good for °µÍø½ûÇøs.

Hello. I am from Ireland but recently arrived in Suzhou where I will spend the year teaching English.

While i am also new here I found a very pleasant bar & grill (frequented by the ex-pats) called Zapata's. The staff are very friendly, and all speak English, plus the food is great. It is a Mexican restaurant so you can get anything from tacos to burgers etc. They have special offers on different night so best to check with the staff. Also Thursday night is pub quiz night.

Oops, sorry.
Its located out by Dongfeng Zhimen. Ya can take the metro to the stop, walk up the steps from the metro, down towards the lake, and Zapata's in about 50m down along the waterfront.

Yes, the website mention about it.  I saw it when I went with my co-work to the Lowenburg Haus which is a German place.  They close by each other.  I thinking of trying other places that was mentioned in the website that are on ShiQuan street.  That street has several °µÍø½ûÇø bars, restaurant, and clubs.

Thanks for the tip.

@ Sophie.... Was it Blue Marlin by any chance? Its a very nice pub, frequented by °µÍø½ûÇøs, most of the staff have fluent English too, and they have live music there most weekends. The food there isn't half bad either. I highly recommend it. Its just around the corner from the school I teach in too.

you could always come along to The Drunken Chef

@Cathal81 , yes it is the Blue Marlin. I went back there last weekend and it was very crowded. Although they have changed the band, but they were pretty good too.

I also love this Mexican restaurant called Casa Zoe. They serve pretty good Spare ribs, although it could be a bit oily sometimes. But this place has pretty good food and crowd aswell.

I am regularly in the Blue Marlin..... and was also there last weekend!

Where is the Drunken Chef? I have heard of the Drunken Clam ok??

@Cathal81, sorry for the very late reply. lol. I'm in South Korea now, but next time I'm back in China and come to Suzhou, I'll let you know!

Yoram Yasur, yes it was Blue Marlin. Broke a glass full of Erdinger dark last time I was there...
