I'm new here in Bangalore, need some advice

I moved to Bangalore only last weekend, and now am living at Whitefield.I would like to know some friends who also live around Whitefield area.

Transportation is a problem, especially going to city center area. Are there any other ways than calling a taxi? If taking public bus, which number of bus goes to city center? (big problem to talk to local people)

Ah, another problem is the water...I notice the water here is really not clean, even though I'm drinking bottle water, but I'm thinking of getting a purifier for kitchen use. any good brand suggest?
