Yes, so this recent discussion about Lombok is exactly the reason why some of us on Bali push Lombok! An example:

"If I was that close to Bali, I'd take a jaunt over, but I love Lombok's peace and quiet, so that's where I'd go for a holiday."

Funny stuff guys!

Lombok "peace and quiet"...

Even Vice President Jusuf Kalla has suggested to tone it down.

That's unfair. I wasn't concerned at any mosque's noise level whilst there.
Saying that, there is a problem with some places in Indonesia.

OK Fred, so maybe this fits in better with your idea of Lombok's "peace and quiet?"

Of course, if you ever came to Bali I would be happy to show you what peace and quiet really is. ;)

Perhaps we stayed at an uncool hotel, or maybe the drunks were away at the time.
Apart from the obvious attraction of those lovely arses (A couple of the girls' bums weren't bad either), the rest of that party isn't my cup of tea.
At least it was on a boat, well out of the way.

"At least it (the party) was on a boat, well out of the way."

The reason it was on a boat is because Gili T was already sinking into the ocean from all the parties going on there. ;)

Fred, the vast majority of visitors to Bali never get out of the southern part of Bali, thus its very easy to form the misconception that Bali is a noisy party zone made famous by Kuta and its reputation. Same goes for Lombok where many visitors only go to Gili T地 mirror image of Kuta, Bali.

Bottom line, there are plenty of areas on both Bali and Lombok for peace and quiet. :top:

The RPM is a stone's throw from our compound...and we love the peace and quiet.

Oh mybe u said about the noise of azan frm masjid . That is common things in Malaysia & that is a must to tone it up in malaysian . Frankly,Thats shouldnt be a problem for me .

Dont read anything into that which isnt there.

But, in case you dont know, this is an issue here in Indonesia and you can read more about it by simply Googling: Jusuf Kalla calls for quieting down the mosques.

We are visiting both Lombok and Gili T soon. I was in Lombok 20 years ago, but I'm sure it has changed a lot. I'm a bit surprised to hear Gili T is like Kuta but I guess I'll find out soon. Compared to 20 years ago, the neighborhood mosques are much more quiet. The thing that wakes me up are the cat fights, and one particular street vendor. Living in Jakarta, I just assume that I need to bring earplugs everywhere if I want a quiet sleep.

Youll recognize Senggigi before you recognize Gili T. Thats not to say that there hasnt been growth in Senggigi, as there has, but it still retains some of its laid back modest beach resort feel. Gili T is completely different than when you were there 20 years ago.
