pet dog to bali

jomd

Hi everyone,
I am currently in Bali for 2 weeks.  I was coming to find a home but have recently been advised I cannot bring my dog with me.  This makes my move to Bali impossible as he is my constant and only companion.
Is it possible to bring in my fully vaccinated and healthy pet?
Unfortunately if its not I need to look elsewhere for my retirement home.
As I said im here for 2 weeks so I would appreciate an answer as soon as possible before going home and having to change my destination.
Thanks in advance
Jo

Yes I am pretty sure it is but it won't be easy. As long as the pet has all the vaccinations and certificates it can be done but there are enough dogs in Bali and in placed Rabies is a concern so that could be why you have heard no.
I would suggest if you are in Bali now then you ask around and look in local °µÍø½ûÇø newspapers and letters for more information.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes you are right there are enough dogs in Bali.  I actually feed the beach dogs when Im here and wish I could rescue them all and that was a part of my long term plan here in Bali.
But as far as being a dog goes Im not sure my boy Bubba Gump could truely be called a real dog hahaha.
Defintely a one person fur baby.

You need to obtain an Import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture (I think??) for any pet entering Indonesia. My friend obtained one several years ago for his two pets from Australia from memory passport and copy of passport, copy of valid health certificate from the vet in Australia plus translation  and the copy of pet's vaccination book plus translation Pets from non-rabies free countries are not allowed, as with many countries rabies is found in bats but not land animals, I'm sure he also got something from Australia explaining this plus a translation (authorised translations) I can't comment on how long the process took he organised most of it in Australia

I also have a feeling his translations got rejected as completed in Australia and had to be re-done within Indonesia but that may be a totally different topic that I'm thinking about??

Thank you for your reply to my post,
Ive been told this total ban on pets into Bali is just recent, maybe the last 12  months.  I was advised in Australia the ban was  total and nothing could be done from that end.
Today I went to visit a local vet here in Bali and she advised it may be possible with the use of a PET TAXI from Jakarta......
This looks slightly promising but if anyone is a pet lover they may understand my trepidation, and the worry that this could be done by an animal lover and not someone who could be cruel to my dog.  Hes like a child to me and the idea of him suffering AT ALL is unthinkable.
So all I need to know now is has anyone used this PET TAXI from Jakarta.  I am not worried about cost, just my boys welfare.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Jo
Did you have any further clarification yet? We are also wanting to move to Bali early 2018 for a year from Brisbane and can't seem to find any official pages stating the current rules.  It seems if the borders to Bali really are closed to ALL pets,  the pet taxi option is really an illegal pet smuggling service?  We are trying to contact the minister for agriculture direct to see if being from an approved Rabie free area there is a legal way in. Would appreciated any further info you may have come across.

Hi Tam,
The borders are definitely closed to all dogs.  But there is a company in Canggu called Seven Heaven.   The ladys name is Mikha and she may be able to help you.  I am using her service in February.  Its not cheap but if you want  your fur baby with you she may not be the only option but I believe she is the SAFEST..  I am trusting her with my boy  Bubba and I have met her, and she is the real deal.  There are many PET TAXIS in Bali but I wouldnt trust many of them.  Go to the seven heaven facebook page and see what this lovely woman does for so many people and especially the Bali Dogs.
Jo
May I add though if your only going for a year it is a very expensive exercise.  It costs even MORE to bring your pet home again.....Getting dogs out is harder than getting them in.  Ive decided to stay in Bali indefinitely just for this reason..GOOD LUCK..

veerletum

HI,

I can not find her in on FB, maybe you have data from her that I can mail her?

jomd

***
This is her  email address.
On messenger she is Mikha***
She is definitely the lady to see.  My Boy has been in Bali now for 2 weeks.  He arrived sitting in the front seat of a beautiful aircon 4 wd with his personal keeper and box of treats in the back haha..  By the time he had reached me, as there was a slight delay because of Nyepi day, i think he was in love with his carer.  I cannot recommend Mikha highly enough.  She did everything she promised, sent daily video and photos of Bubba Gumps journey.  My months of stress were all for nothing..  Very expensive exercise but to me worth every cent....

What was the process?  We have 2 dogs we want to take with us when we retire to Bali in approx 12 months.  I was under the impression that because Australia is a rabbies free country it wasn't going to be an issue.

wolfioz

Many thanks for that.  I guess there are many ways around most Issues in Indonesia.
Good to know these people can assist.

I’m guessing there must be some loopholes the company goes through.

Thanks Jo
Hope you two are enjoying Bali.

Are you planning on getting the retirement visa, if so, what will you do about medical insurance?

We were in Ubud leading up to and past Nyepi day. Loved all the celebrations. Can’t wait to come back.

jomd

Hello again,
Yes I have the retirement visa.  I got health insurance via a company in Singapore.  I was given the contact through my visa agent.  Since arriving I have found out I paid way too much for health insurance and I am currently looking into taking travel insurance next time instead of health insurance.  But I have only heard this is possible and havent checked into it properly.  I  paid the ridiculous amount of $4000 for a year.....Unfortunately I was in such a rush to get my visa I just took the first quote.....I will research a lot better before my renewal in 10 months.  A lot of things you dont find out until you get here.  it is really a steep learning curve the first few months.  But well worth the effort.  Life here so far is wonderful and everything I imagined it might be.  Couldnt be happier..

wolfioz

Ditto - can’t wait. Being big dog lovers, we will most likely do some volunteering for the Bali Animal rescue centre (BARC) in Ubud, which is where we’ll most likely settle.

Thanks for the advice so far.

jomd

Aaaahhhh that also was my plan......BUT.  Volunteering is not allowed on a retirement visa.  Not allowed for any organisation.  If found out your visa will be revoked......not a chance im prepared to take and have to leave my dog behind.........sad but true  :(

Hi Jenn, its illegal nove dog to Bali, I know there are some agencies that claim that they can do it through Jakarta, wich Is Legal instead, where the dog have to do queantine and then they will bring the dog in Bali with a car, but if they get caught, the dog will be killed. if nobody claim the property in 24 hours.
U can read at the link below  more details.

beccrossley1

Hey, are you having any luck finding a way to get your dog to bali?
We can’t move unless we can find a way to take our dog with us.

No legal ways as you see from the thread.
There are smugglers (many claiming to be legal) who claim they can but your animal will be put down if it's found .. and you may face harsh punishments. I'd be amazed if that didn't include deportation.

However, there are many lovely bits of Indonesia that (IMHO are a million times better than Bali) will allow you to bring your dog legally - but you have to jump through a few hoops to do it.

This is a very old thread but it's clear some are still reading it. I have removed posts offering or suggesting  illegal services as the dog will be put down and the owners probably get into serious trouble.

I realise animal lovers will often give up their time to help dog or whatever with problems but be sure to note this is illegal and could get you into trouble with immigration.
However, that doesn't mean it's impossible. What readers MUST do is go to the nearest immigration office and tell them what you intend to do.
If they say it's fine - you're clear.

Hello,
I read this entire post because we are looking to retire in Bali, and also want to bring our beloved dog!
I'm wondering how are you going now in Bali since Covid hit almost 2 years after you arrived? I hope you have been able to stay as it would be impossible I think to get your dog back out again? Best regards

As you will see from the thread, you cannot get the dog in without risking it being put down and you being deported, perhaps after some serious punishments

Curious what other  places in Indo that are nicer and easier to move pets to than Bali

Fred

There are no good dog import companies for Bali
If found, your dog will be killed and you will likely be deported

I hope that's clear because I like dogs

If found, your dog will be put down (No, you can't argue), and you will probably be deported.

DON"T TRY IT
