how is the life in Jakarta

Milodk

Hi everybody,

I am a 27-year-old girl.
I would like to try to imagine how is the life in Jakarta because I will have maybe the opportunity to move there for my job (my boyfriend will come with me).
I heard some good and bad ideas about it, that's why I need your help to make the good choice! :)

- is it a safe city?
- is it easy to meet people and friends
- is it a pleasant city?
- what can we do around Jakarta (without taking flights)?
- are there some trekking to do closed to Jakarta?
- is there a big choice for sports activities?
- are there some nice beach not too far?

The other possibilities for me to go as an °µÍø½ûÇøriate are Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Colombo (Sri Lanka), and Cambodia.
So it is a big mess for me to do a choice!!
are there some people among you that already live in these cities?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Enjoy your °µÍø½ûÇø time, I hope to become one of you soon!

Hi Milodk,

don't know if you've decided yet where to go?!
I moved to Jakarta recently and i have to agree with msandarina. Despite the polluted air, the horrible traffic and noise level you're surrounded by the whole day it's a nice place to be.
Regarding your questions i obviously don't have much experience to tell from ... but anyway:

- safe city?
what i've read and how i feel: yes

- is it easy to meet people and friends
well, if you consider people coming up to you and asking if they can make pictures of you "meet people" then yes :-)

- is it a pleasant city?
definetely!

- are there some nice beach not too far?
i've heard abt. one north of Jakarta - maybe 2 hours drive but i haven't been there yet

Maybe that helps

Cheers

Hi Milodk!

Welcome to Jakarta, it's nice city with nice people, just be patient with the traffic. Many transportation you can use to explore the city, such as train, transjakarta bus, or maybe ojek. Perhaps we can get around together someday. Cheers..

For Bitzki, thanks to be my contact.
