Renewing British Passort from KL

smmdn2024

Hey Guys,

Looking for some advice please and I guess this question has been asked before as I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere.

I am planning to renew my British passport online in Malaysia and trying to confirm some information on whether or not I need to send back my old passport to the UK?

I am in Malaysia on a 3 month visa exemption so I don't have any residency or citizenship in any other country.

If I need to send my passport back then what would my legal status be in Malaysia?

If I do need to send it back - is there any type of waiver I can apply for to cover the period I would have without any immigration document? Or is this even required?

Thanks

Doesn't the UK Government website tell you exactly what to do and what you need to send and payment details and options for express service etc?

Usually when you renew a passport then they will cut the corner from the old one so that it can no longer be used, and they return it back to you, so I assume you would need to send back your old passport. However, all details will be in the UK government website about renewing a passport from overseas.

Anyway, rather than ask for advice here, I would use the government website and do exactly as they say and send all documents they ask for. i renewed my own passport a couple of years ago when I was visiting the UK along with my children's passports, all nice blue ones so it's been a few years since I applied from overseas.

@wyngrove60

This issue I'm asking about is my status in Malaysia after sending back the old passport and then being in Malaysia with zero immigration documents.

The British Government doesn't offer any advice on that.

Well you could check with the immigration department, or visit the British High Commission to ask them. But when you apply for a renewal of your passport then they would send back your old passport and when you depart Malaysia you just need to show the old one with your entry stamp into Malaysia.

I don't think you will have any issues from immigration while in Malaysia and I assume you won't be travelling to other countries during your passport renewal. IF you have photocopies of the main pages and your entry stamp into Malaysia then I don't see what the problem is.
