Hello there!

shyla19

Hello everyone

I live in England and I'm looking forward to take up an offer in Malaysia.

I have been offered 22MYR salary plus 4000MYR allowance to cover the house and car .(Health insurance ,dental and car maintenance 10K )
Could someone let me know if this is enough to lead to comfortable life in KL. I have a child who is 4 years old. I never realized schooling would eat up all your money and never brought up in the HR discussion which is a shame.
Now I'm really concerned if I would be able to manage the school fees with this salary .Now I feel its not very good to ask for school allowance or a hike at this point in time.

Please help as your answer to this query would help me make a decision  whether to accept this offer or not.

hi  personally think it should be more than enough  Yes school fees are necessary but they are cheaper than the UK. Considering that your car, housing, health and practically all expensive items are covered by your employer unless you have ridiculously lavish lifestyle the equivalent of £4500 per month should more than cover food, electric and schooling.  Whilst you have to pay for the privilege of international schooling it should be better than many state schools in some parts of UK and definetly of a comparable standard to private uk schools and even a little cheaper. There are also very good "local" English medium schools which more affluent chinese and malay send their children to so that they grow up truly bi or tri lingual at a fraction of the cost of international schools.  I opted for this when posted to Hong Kong many years ago and my eldest daughter recently graduated with a degree from Southampton uni in French, Spanish and mandarin!

good luck with you move

Dear Emme
Thank you
That was very quick and promising . We were doubtful whether to accept this offer considering the school fees.   We are not in a mindset to send our lad to AS or GIS as its way too high ,I understand there will be no compromise on the standard of teaching with these schools. We have decided on the ELC,are you aware of this school ? Any help is much appreciated.

Congrats and best wishes for your daughter

elc is a good school. but why dont u check out desa park intl school. not cheaper than elc but better. u r getting a good package and u need to b careful with picking a school. my view is if u can afford it, just go for it :-)

Hi, if this is the monthly income then it is good, equal to about £4000. Is it tax free? That would be really good if you can manage. But if you want to stay there it is also good 'cos life in UK is quite downhill. I am also from UK looking to retire in KL.

Many thanks Emme. I agree, reading blogs has become my full time job these days.
