12K salary in JB is good. You will only face problem with the fees of international school. please do the research there.

No way is that enough.

As a bare minimum with no savings simple min is
10,000 + 4,000 per child (gross) so that is 18,000 min

Good schools charge upto 6k a month (averaged over a 12 month year - some as high as 8k a month) the cheap end is 2.5k plus expenses so say 3k net or 4k gross before tax.

Unless you get free school places do not accept this offer. Also whether good depends on your skills that you dont mention

Angryrodent

WTF is that true nemodot?Ìý Good thing my kids don't hafta go 2 international school.. I earn oki but that would = 12k+ / month for school alone... not a small dent in my economy. Sure If it's uni but for secondary hell no.. I'll send em back to Sweden before I pay that much :D

murthy_IS

Thanks for the honest reply and alert nemodot. : :o

After going through many blogs and forums , i am on verge of accepting an offer of nearly same salary in seremban(salary 13000). If what you are saying is true , then thanks a lot! (I have two kids one school going).

Seremban is a long way from KL and quite provincial. Its a bit backward and not many foreigners. But unfortunately there are no international or private schools anywhere near by - so cant image how your children will be educated as Malaysian schools do not accept foreign students. But there is a school in Cyberjaya I believe, about 20 minutes away by road. But curious about what employer in that area would be offering that type of salary. Please just be sure it is not some kind of job scam, where they ask you for money upfront for travel, accommodation, visa, hotel, etc. etc.

murthy_IS

Dear Gravitas
i didn't know that!. then i have to seriously rethink about my situation. is this school in cyberjaya, international?

good thingÌý i am getting the true pictures!

Many thanks!

Ten years ago an IT project manager got 30k min plus two school places at school of choice plus accomodation plus driver plus maid plus cook.

Then Malaysian companies released they could offer Indians/East eueopeans10k so 80% cheaper! That is why so many °µÍø½ûÇøs these daysare single or working married couples. With children you are stuck unless pre school.

Simple economics really those with school age children either get a proper old fashioned °µÍø½ûÇø package or stay away.

Murthy, 13k in seremban is manageable. Ive made posts on typical expenses before. Have a look. Although accomodation expenses will be cheaper than living in kl city. schooling costs u can check based on links provided by gravitas.

Nemodot

Carlyle1979 you are simply out of touch with reality. The cheapest primary schools that meet minimum standards are 30k a year. With expenses 35k. So 70k a year net. Gross up for tax averages 8K per month over a 12 month year. This is forgetting the huge deposit.

Anyone coming from Europe or America would not accept the few cheaper schools as they are so bad I wouldn't take a free place..indeed by western standards most of these schools are not good. Maybe for some from India as the local Indian state educational standards are so low they might be ok. But even then these are Chinese dominated schools who will treat indian children like dirt. Rascism is rife in Chinese schools as well.as brutal use of punishment. i have seen Indian students ignored bullied and humiliated. And that is just the teachers!

Basically rock bottom is 30k primary to 45k secondary and going up at 10% per year. So with children 4k per month at least per child for primary to 6k per month gross for secondary.

For a single or couple no kids or under 3 years old ok. Otherwise Malaysia is not competitive now for most °µÍø½ûÇø jobs.

Angryrodent

Im not saying I will be taking my kids back.. but damn is it really this bad? My kids are doing ok... Inte så att svenska skolan gör så mycket bättre :D
