8500 RM is a good salary for 8 years IT exper In Cyberjaya Malysia

wpms

Hi All,

Need your help, I am from India, recently got a offer from one of the Indian firm in Malaysia and It is for MNC client in Cyberjaya. Offer is of one year contract.
They offered me RM 8500/PM with insurance for self, Visa charges, flight ticket for self & 1 week initial accom.

Also there is no single benefit for my Spouse as I want to bring my spouse after me.Not sure about the spouse expenses.
Will there be any problem after my contract over with existing company to join another company in Malaysia?
Any experiences please share me.
Also at the same time in India, I have a offer of 14/lacs per annum.

Please need your suggestion to decide and choose the best, I am totally in a confused state of mind  at the moment. Plz plz help me.

One year contract is way too less for your experience - try asking for 2 years or permanent role.  They will lure you saying they will make you permanent etc but plainly put, contract is contract and be prepared for it. Please remember that for the first 6 months, you will be taxed at a flat rate of 25% ( difference will be refunded of course) but from a growth perspective, not really sure as to how much it could help you if they happen to terminate your contract after a year. Most of the companies tend to do that and send back folks after a year and hire someone else who are willing to come for lesser package. Lucky if your employer gives you a NOC if yoi happen to get a better offer elsewhere after arriving here. Also, if you plan to bring along your family, costs will increase. Health care is also expensive and not like how its in India. If you have a 14lacs offer from India, I personally suggest you take it rather than coming here and start everything from scratch. It will at least take you  6-8 months to settle down with your job and lo, your contract will be about to expire.

Hi Anup,

I did the calculation after deducting expenses ..there is much saving compare to Inida, Apart from the what else should I consider, How is the job market in Malaysia, Will I get a job easily after my 1 year contract is over ..will our India companies issue NOC or not ..... please elaborate bit more on this if possible ..thanks for your help in advance!

WPMS, on papers, the conversion and savings might seem big but this is the mistake most of us do. Trust me. I live in KL and I went through the same thing as you. Forget about NOC. First tell us what are your skill set. The reason I am asking is, common programming skills are difficult to fetch a local offer. Your cost of living will increase based on whether you have a kid, does your kid require admission to schools, any specific medical conditions for you or your family members that require regular visits to hospitals etc. Please keep in mind that healthcare is not as it is in India. Here, we cannot just walk into any hospital and demand for treatment unless you want to pay by cash. You also mentioned your spouse will not be covered by your employer's insurance so you need to shell out that money from your pocket. Secondly, if you intend to buy a car, it is difficult again because of the local taxation. Cars are ridiculously expensive.

If you have made calculations as per today you will make around 16 lakhs p/a. savings depends on your life style again. In the beginning as foreigner you will also take time to settle down, and if you are planning to bring your family here you have to get dependent pass and additional time etc... and as untunedguitar mentioned about the taxes. winding up altogether you wont be making as much as indian offer as you mentioned. try to negotiate on your salary with the malaysian company  if you are more interested living in malaysia. i suggest RM11-12k you should start thinking to move. And most important thing... check how stable is the company... Contracts can be terminated at any time.

Thanks for u reply,
I don't have kids yet and my wife also have not that much medical necessity ,,
Also not looking for buyin cars .,, only concerend about the job security after completing 1 year contract .,, i'm in to IT adminstration field, not in to programming .,,,have offer in india as well apart from Malysia and there is no much diff in offer as well, but india i think saving will be more compare to Malysia?

Your job security will be way better when compared to India. What will you do after a year here? You will have to find another offer or just move back to India. But if you are already getting a very good package in India, I would better stay back. This is just my advise but if you wish to come over, explore and are ready to take risk, you may choose to. :)
