Batu caves is open dawn to dusk I think. There is a "shoes off" shrine at the bottom and the huge golden statue. Walking up the 272 stairs to the cave, there is not a lot to see up there, except at festival times. There is a great lily pond with huge fish at the bottom and lots of monkeys up the stairs and around the cliff face. There is a cave walk as well. New code of conduct though:
1. No shorts or hot pants
2. No skirts above the knee
3. No jogging or running
4. No pets
5. Do not spit
6. No smoking allowed
Petaling Street is one market street in China Town. Central Market is close by and is much more interesting in my opinion. It is an old wetmarket that has been renovated and still has some remarkable architectural features, including floor tiles. It houses cafes and tiny shops selling a wide range of goods. China Town is best accessed by taking the LRT from say Ampang Park to Pasir Seni - parking is a nightmare - but there is some outside Central Market.
The area is close to Merdeka Square (5 mins walk) which is surrounded by beautiful heritage buildings and one of them houses the Malaysian Textile Museum. It is a very large green patch of grass with a tall flag pole. There is car parking under it I think (recently reopened) The oldest mosque in KL is near there too - Masjid Jamek
If you have the car still there is a nice drive around the Bird Park, Planetarium, Botanic Garden (with childrens playground) Orchid Garden, etc.
Malaysian roads are notorious so always drive defensively. I heard that there is Colmar Village at Genting as well - copy of Alsacienne hill town where french atmosphere is maintained and cuisine available. Not been myself. It seems to be connected with the cable car in some way and costs 16 rm for adults and 8 rm for children.
"Bukit Tinggi - "The Unique French Village" - Colmar Tropicale is the unique French-themed attraction at Bukit Tinggi Resort. It stands 2,600 feet above sea level on 80 acres of natural forestland. The first of its kind in Malaysia, it is modelled after the 16th Century Colmar Village in Alsace, France and has retained the authenticity and European feel of its counterpart. Submerge yourself in the French countryside ambience at Colmar Tropicale as its beautiful architecture and furnishings bring you back to times of yore.
For photo snappers, Colmar Tropicale is a haven with the castle drawbridge at the entrance being a favourite. Watch swans along the moat, sit around the square's fountain, wishing well and climb up the viewing tower for a grand spectacle of the resort and the picturesque cuckoo clock tower which was designed after the Riquewihr Tower, France."
