Aquino airport connecting flight

mati_steve

Hi folks.  I'll be headed back to Mati next month and my flight this time has me coming into Aquino Airport (Manila) and then a connecting flight to Davao.  This will be my first time flying into the Aquino airport and just looking to get some info so I'm not surprised (last time I flew directly into Davao).  From what I gather, I'll fly into Terminal-1 as it will be an international arrival, go through customs, and then get my connecting flight in Terminal-2 (Philippine Airlines).  I heard - but can't confirm - that Philippine Airline now has a shuttle to take passengers from Terminal-1 to Terminal-2.  Is this correct?  My Filipina GF told me this must be a new thing as she had to take a taxi between terminals, but that was many years ago.  Anyway, just looking for any info/tips.  Thanks much!

EDIT: I also have Global Entry - any idea if that will help me go through customs faster in the Philippines (it does coming back into the US, but that might just be a US thing)?

There is a shuttle service that runs 24/7 between the terminals

AIRSIDE SHUTTLE BUSES

NAIA Terminals are connected by free 24-hour airside buses every 15 minutes. Passengers are required to clear immigration and customs prior using the service.

It is needed a flight booking or boarding pass to board them.

LOCATION

To take a bus, please get to the Airside Shuttle Bus Waiting Lounge in your terminal. Just follow the signs "Transfers" or "Terminal Transfer".

Hi,

there is an airside shuttle bus going from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

The entry into the Philippines can take everything between 10 minutes and 2 hours. If you are over 60 years old, you can use the lane for senior citizens. This is than less than 10 minutes. However, you have to wait for your checked luggage up to 1 hour. So I prefer to travel with hand luggage. The transfer time should be at least 3 to 4 hours from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. You have to check-in in Terminal 2 again. With hand-luggage you can avoid that and go to the boarding gate directly. An e-boarding pass on the smart phone will do.

Great info - thanks!  I just turned 60 last year, so good timing (haha).  I'll keep that in mind when I get to customs.  I travel light and always hand-carry, so I should be set (unless for some reason the airline forces me to check in my bag).

Global Entry is run by USA Customs and only applies to travelers entering the USA.

Just wanted to post on how it went for me in case anyone wants to know in the future …

I landed right on time at NAIA airport (Terminal 1), coming from Taipei, Taiwan.  The plane got to the gate relatively quickly and off-boarding was basically uneventful.  I was in row 56 (economy), so it took a while before I got off the plane.  To be honest, the walk to immigration took longer than it did getting through immigration and customs.  I was really expecting the worst, but was pleasantly surprised.  The plane landed around 11:30am local time on a Friday.  Since I had a connecting flight at 2:30pm in Terminal 2, and still needed my boarding pass for that flight, I was told to stop by the Transfer Desk next to immigration first.  I went there and talked to a gentlemen who basically told me to proceed to immigration.  I’m not sure why they told me to go there.  I got in one of the 6-7 lines for Immigration and there were 5 people ahead of me.  It went really quick and then on to Customs.  I only had a carry-on and personal item, so I didn’t have to wait for any checked-in bags.  The Customs line (no declaration) was short as well, and I got through in no time.  I exited the lobby, turned right, and at the very end found the PAL shuttle to Terminal 2.  I had to wait on the shuttle for about 15 mins while they waited for more passengers.  The ride to Terminal 2 probably took 5-6 mins.  A gentleman was waiting outside the terminal to ask where each person’s flight was going.  I told him to Davao and he directed me inside the terminal.  I found the PAL ticket agent booth, checked my bag in (since it was 3 kg over the limit for carry on), got my boarding pass, and headed to my gate.  Unbeknownst to me, my PAL flight was delayed an hour.  I found out when I got to my gate and checked my email.  So instead of worrying about not getting my connecting fight, I ended up waiting 3+ hrs for the flight to take off.

San Miguel Corporation took over running NAIA operations last year. I noticed improvements already although they are still making interim adjustments. It felt more efficient during my trip recently. I was there late November and whole of December.

Noted. My neighbour along the Terrace is flying out tomorrow with another girlfriend from London Heathrow to Manila with Emirates staying at the Fairmont (priciest hotel in town) in Makati. I suggested the Peninsula due to its location near the Greenbelt area but apparently was not up to their standard 🙄

Anyway their business class tickets (yeah right) show arrival at T3 Ninoy Aquino. I thought SM corporation had moved all non Philippine Airline international flights to T1 🤔 The hotel is sending a limousine to pick them up (two ladies in their 70's) so I hope that the driver figures out the right terminal. After a couple of days they are then flying into Boracay for two weeks with Philippine Airlines to Caticlan. On their return they arrive in T2 and then have to transfer to the correct terminal for Emirates with about 5 hours to spare

@Lotus Eater

Terminal 3 will be the international Terminal for all non-PAL airlines in the future. T1 will be for PAL only.

Thanks for that update Andy. I've always rated T3 as the best of the bunch with of course the added benefit of 'Runway Manila'
