Rental offer- any university accommodation

Elleyuxian

Hello everyone,

I'm a Malaysian studying in London. I've received an internship offer in Singapore, on the condition that I'd have to sort out the accommodation arrangements myself. Most of the serviced apartments require a minimum tenancy of 3 months, which is not ideal considering that the internship duration is only for a month. I'm wondering if any student would be kind enough to rent out their room at any university dorm (though preferably NUS or SMU), if the contract starts earlier/ the room would not be used for a certain period of time? My internship is in July, and I'd be very happy to pay extra on top of the usual accommodation fees.

Thank you!

Best,

Elle

Sorry to say, but such subletting of student dormitory rooms is not allowed - and neither is renting out any residential property for less than three or six months.

Since it is illegal, you will find such offers only from scammers or fraudsters. And breaking rules is unwise in Singapore anyway. So avoid this at all costs!

You can stay (for free) at a friend's place. But if you have no friends here, the only alternative is (costly) hotels or backpacker hostels.

Note: Please make sure you have the required visa allowing work - a TEP or TWP is probably best in your case. Coming on a visit visa (or visa on arrival) and then doing an internship (even if unpaid) is also illegal and can get you into deep trouble!
