Dependent pass validity when EP holder change job

Hi everyone,


I searched around for this topic but it seems changing job when you are EP holder with DP attached to you is not that common in Singapore.


My case is that I have a kid currently enrolled in a school with DP. As per my understanding, if I change job the EP from previous employer will be cancelled first and along with that, the DP. New employer would then have to apply for new DP only after new EP is issued.


My questions:

  1. Is it possible to apply for new DP when my EP is still in IPA state?
  2. If not, there would be a period where my kid will be without a valid pass to be enrolled in school. I don't think he can stay in school with temporary short visit pass issued after EP/DP cancellation, but maybe I'm wrong. What is the common/suggested practice, if any, for EP holder to switch job without disrupting school for kids with DP?

Your employer should apply for the DP together with your EP!

Thanks Beppi! Didn't know that it is possible to apply EP and DP together. I always thought EP must be applied first and only after it is approved, DP can be applied.

Yes, I’m general that’s the norm because for your EP your employer is your sponsor. So, they prefer to wait to see your EP approval before they apply DP for your family members. Good luck
