Question on IPA and new EP rules

Hello all


I have resigned from my current job and my new employer has initiated my EP processing and got the IPA approved for myself and my dependants.


My IPA was approved / issued on 30th of July. My last working day in my current Organization is on 14th of Sep. I will be joining this new organisation on 18th Sep 2023.


understand that new EP rules will be applicable for those application which are submitted from 1st Sep 2023.


I have couple of questions.


  1. Since my IPA is already approved but my date of joining is in mid September, do I need to go through compass evaluation before they issue my work pass?
  2. Or since my IPA is already issued prior to Sep 1st, this new rule is not applicable and only come in to effect during my renewal?

Your EP is approved and valid. You don't need to worry about which rules MoM applied during the process - you obviously passed them!

My concern was that, as of now I have an IPA and my joining date is around mid September 2023 which is when work pass will be issued.


Since new rules kick off from 1st Sept onwards, will it affect my IPA as I haven’t started working yet and still holding IPA?

New rules will not affect you.

@beppi I thought though the IPA is received prior to Sep 2023, to issue the work pass we may need to go through compass again if the the work commence date is post Sep 2023.


Compass is applicable for only those IPAs which are applied post Sep 2023. Is my understanding correct?
