Indonesian Chinese planning to apply PR

kelvinsen

Hi all, I'm an Indo Chinese M, studied and completed secondary school, post secondary and university.

Holding on to EP and have been working here for almost half a year now under EP scheme.

My partner got her PR status recently (Malaysian Chinese), and we plan to register our marriage in a year or two and start a family.

I would like to apply for PR. Is it recommended to register marriage first, and then apply under family/spouse scheme? Or is applying first before marriage better (waiting for 6th month salary slip)? Also my parent is a PR who have stayed here for a long time, if that matters.

Thank you all for your time, and I would appreciate any insights.

Why the hurry? To increase your chances, wait until you have completed three years of work in Singapore.

By that time you may also be married and have a child, which will increase your chances further.

@beppi Hi, thanks for your reply. Having PR status early gives me a sense of peace since EP is on renewal basis. Furthermore we plan to buy a resale, so having PR status early help us achieve our goal of having our own home before having kids.

@kelvinsen I can understand your reasoning - but these are NOT points ICA will take into cobsideration! For them, it matters only whether you will contribute to Singapore eceonomically and socially in the long term - and for that having proved yourself for a certain time is certainly important.

Thanks for yoyr reply. Do you reckon applying early and  possibly getting rejected would affect future application?

@kelvinsen There is a fine line between being dedicated towards a task (which is positive) and being despeate (which is negative).

I recommend you wait until you completed three years of working Singapore, to show dedication to the country. Try to also, during this time, accumulate other points to strengthen your application - social engagement or a (preferably male) child are the easiest options!
