Credit Card Debt for Banks in Singapore

jrandyrh

I left Singapore 2022 and I have over 35k SGD credit card bill with interest for DBS bank and I continued to pay the bills untill 2023 Feb later and I couldn't pay because I did not have enough income when I left Singapore. After two years, now I have a job offer and I have got S Pass to come to Singapore. Will the immigration cause any issues while entering to Singapore? I was trying to communicate with the bank and I tried to pay small amount couple of months. Hence I lost my job in other country, I couldn't continue to pay the bills. Initially I informed the bank that I am no longer in Singapore and I cannot pay the bill at once and asked for a installation plan and what they mentioned is that it has already given to a debt collector company and I have to deal with them. Seems Bank did this purposely. I am willing to pay the debts going forward but I am hesitate to come to Singapore because of this situation. Please advise if anyone knows anything about. Expect an answer from a reliable source.

This is an Internet forum for informal exchange of ideas and advice among °µÍø½ûÇøs, and nothing here comes with a guarantee.

If you want a "reliable source", better engage a lawyer!

In addition, you should not post the same content twice on the forum. (Please read and follow the forum rules!) I removed your other post.

That said, here is my opinion:

At this huge amount (S$35k), the bank is very unlikely to let the matter rest, especially if you stop cooperating or showing willingness to find a solution.

Debt collection agencies are even less cooperative, so this is bad news for you!

However, as long as there is no court case outstanding, the debt will not influence your ability to visit Singapore. So you should do anything you can to prevent the debt collector or bank from sueing you!

Whether you can ever work in Singapore again is yet another question. If you pay back your debt (e,g, in installments) via a mutual agreement, there will be no negative consequences. But if you default and are declared bancrupt (possibly in absentia), you might have to avoid Singapore for the rest of your life!

Please learn from this that it is a BAD idea to spend more money than you have!

@beppi Thank you for the reply. I already got a work permit and S pass to enter Singapore.  I am curious to see what will  happen when I enter at the immigration. As far as if I am not going to Jail, should be fine. So I can pay my debts.

Yes, I learnt a big lesson in my life and I had to expend a lot to learn that lesson. Easy money. I got stuck with credit cards due to forex trading. That's caused me to lose all my earnings and became a debtor at last.

I will make sure to adhere to the site rules. Sorry for the inconvenience.
