Singapore jobs and EP

Wildcow

Hi,

I am likely to get an opportunity to work in a singapore company.
I earn decent in India, around 4k SGD, and have an experience of about 9 yrs. does my current salary would play a part in getting me EP or the salary offered shall be the decider?

Also what documents shall be required from my end, I read the brief summary on mom but it doesn't tell the specifics.

Thanks!

Your Singapore employer will apply for the EP. They will also tell you which documents are needed. In general it's certificates of your education and of previous employment.
The EP is given based on your salary in Singapore, not previous salaries (but of course your employer might grade your Singapore salary based on your previous ones). Please note that due to the high price level you'll need at least double income to have a similar living standard - S$4000 is enough for a single person only.

Thanks!

Yes. Its an exceptionally well planned city, but the cost of living may even deter westerners.
More than that, I reckon it must be hard on locals to put through rising costs. :(
I think they did good with raising the PEP salary bracket.

Hi...as long as company is sponsoring you u don't need to worry about the visa formalities...Nowadays its quite difficult to get the EP but S pass should be fine..lets keep our finger crossed....

Thanks!

Well...I'm bit curious to know what is there major difference between S-pass and EP.

beppi

S-Pass is for lower earners (S$2000-5000/month), can be had without university degree (but a technical certificate is needed), the employer has to fall into a quota system and has to pay a levy.
EP is for higher earners with degree and allows bringing dependants on DP.

Sorry I meant, the eligibility difference aside which is salary, what benefits does an EP holder get which an SPass holder doesnt?

beppi

EP holders can bring family members as dependants. That's the main difference for the employee. But there are others too: Companies have to pay a levy and fulfill stricter foreigner-to-local-employee quotas for S-Pass than for EP.

Wildcow

Thanks. But does S-pass cover spouse?
The levy which you speak of is paid by employer separately, or is a part of CTC?

Im sorry, too many questions. :/

beppi

S-Pass is a personal work visa for the employee.
To bring family members, you'd have to apply for a dependents pass (DP) for them. This requires an EP and a minimum salary of S$4000/month (soon to be raised).

Correction: Accpording to MoM, S-Pass holders can also apply for DP if their salary is above S$4000/month - but it might be rejected.

Thanks beppi!
