SPass new application with Master's Degree

klimrona

Hi,

I am an SPass holder with 7 years of experience in IT industry.
My current salary is $4,000/month.

My story is,
March 2019, I finished my Master's degree in the Philippines.
April 2019, I searched for a job here in SG and luckily found one.
July 2019, my first SPass was applied and got approved. That time, my employer did not declare my Master's degree because my master's degree certificate has  not released yet by my school due to some clearance processes.
September 2019, I started working here in SG.
November 2019, my degree certificate arrived.
....
Then now...
April 2021, I just got a job offer from a new company. Salary is $5,000/month.
April 12, 2021, my new potential employer applied for SPass. This time, the employer declared my Master's degree as I was able to show them my degree certificate already.
Status is still pending until now.

My question is...
Do you think that my added educational background, which is Master's degree, will not create any issue in the approval?

Hi ,

If previous job u never submit the master degree better don’t add, because MOM will need verification  proof from a global verification agency to your new employer.

Just submit whatever previously done ;

I have experience this before and my employer withdrawn the application and resubmitted again with previous one

Hope can help

Thanks

Hi @mate1306, oh really? May I know why did your employer withdrew the first application one? Was it rejected?

Shekhz

If your degree certificate is from an University that’s in the list of recognized Universities/ awarding institutions on the MoM work permit portal, plus you have a copy of the cert/ degree which you can submit while applying for the EP through your employer/ agency- it shouldn’t be an issue. Approval process takes it due course, MoM validates any additional information- which is fair. Be patient, there is no reason to worry here. It is always advisable to furnish the righteous information, rather than concealing the truth.

Hi,

Is not rejected, MOM asking my employer to get the verification from global agency and the verification took 2 weeks , so my employer withdrawn the application and submit only bachelor degree which previously done . thanks

I support Shekhz suggestion above: By all means, stay with the truth in your application. Withholding some information will backfire later!
Now to your case: Why S-Pass? The intended pass type for M.Sc. holder? holders is EP!
Did you check the SAT to figure out what your minimum salary is? Just S$5000/month seems rather low.

klimrona

Hi @Beppi, my new employer has a budget requirement of $4,000 to $6,000 for this position.
Plus they can only give 25% salary hike from my current salary which is $4,000.
That’s why they offerred me $5,000.
The minimum salary for me to be qualified for EPass is $7,000, which is way beyond the budget.

Would SPass with master’s be an issue?

I have friends in the same position (software developer), with the same years of experience as mine (7-8 years). They also get $4k - $6k per month. My only difference is the Master’s degree.
That’s why I thought $5k is fair enough.

DurbanP

Hi klimrona,

Currently I am getting 5.5k basic salary with S pass, and I am a Master’s degree too. So it is definitely possible

beppi

It makes no difference to MoM's decision that the employer has a budget constraint and you are happy with a low pay. They are only looking at your general market value - and they don't want foreigners to undercut it!
The minimum salary for an EP (for a fresh graduate) is now S$4500/month. Getting just S$500 more for an additional Master degree and 7 years experience seems very low to me. But let's see how MoM views it. Please come back and report the result here.

Hi!
Got the good news! My SPass just got approved today around 12noon.

Application date: 12 Apr 2021
Approval Date: 23 Apr 2021

Is it safe to resign now? Even though my new HR has not sent my IPA yet?

Shekhz

Hearty congratulations on securing the approval. I am glad that you outlined and updated your highest educational qualification and MOM reviewed/ approved it- patience is indeed sweet.

You will get the IPA almost instantly, so give it another day or so and when you have the IPA, submit your resignation. Just to ensure you don’t add up to the already stressful past few days.

However, it is safe to resign if you see the status online as ‘approved’, and have a confirmation from your employer’s HR department.
