Teaching job criterion for DP holders.

nuritasamanta

Hello Everyone,

My name is Nurita. I am on DP. Recently I have relocated to Singapore.I have 8 years of experience in the pre-primary and primary section with CBSE Curriculum (India).

I have the following degrees:

· Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

· Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

· Master of Education (M.Ed.)

Now I am pursuing the International Educators Certification Programme for International Baccalaureate (IB_PYP) Qualification at University of Windsor. Thereafter, I hope to teach in an IB school.

I would like to know the following:

(1). Do I need any further certificate or license or accreditation to be eligible to teach in any recognized IB school in Singapore?

(2). I have applied for the job in the International schools and Indian CBSE schools in SG. Surprisingly, I didn't get any call from them. However, most of the vacancies were similar to my profile. Can any body tell me the reason?

Your help with any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Starting from 1.05, DP holders will no longer be able to apply for LOC and get the job using this path. You will need to secure a pass on your own. This will be a huge change in the job landscape for teachers, as many international schools depend on DP holders. I suppose that at the moment no one is sure how it would look like after 1.05. It depends on how much pressure will be there to replace the foreign teachers with local teachers.

Can I secure a pass o my own with out a job ?

Yes, there will be a huge change after May 1. I have gone through the rules. It's says that schools can hire only 10% foreign workers  with levy in the service industry. That's too low for DP holders. But my question is  "how will it be possible to get so many local people with proper teaching credentials with experience?" Just by giving a training no one can become a teacher. It's require lots of passion, patience also it's not the money making job.

I believe that the 10% limit is for S pass holders, and doesn't apply to EP holders. It is possible to get a teaching job with an EP (but criteria are different - the required salary is higher). There is no official EP quota, but companies may still be reluctant to employ too many EP holders. it requires more effort, as company needs to prove that they did not find any local person who fulfills the job criteria. How keen the schools will be to do it? How keen MOM will be to grant work passes to foreign teachers? No one knows the answer today. Certainly education and experience can only help you.
