A few months ago? Every border opened up July 1 last year.

I did a border run to extend my stay in June 2023. The only issue is thailand now requires you to stay 1 night in the other country before you can come back when doing a land crossing. Was doable but sucked i left all my stuff in a hotel in the thailand side including my phone charger. My gf could have gone back to get some things if she could drive and the border wasn't a hour from closing. Thais can go back and forth all they want.

Not entirely correct. You don't need to stay 1 night when doing border runs to for example Laos or Cambodia when using an agency. I have never heard of any official rules saying that "Thailand" requires one night away before you can come back. Definitely not when it comes to the most common/biggest border crossings between Thailand and Cambodia.

When i tried to come back, the Cambodian officer warned me that i need to spend one night then advised i don't let them stamp my passport and go ask thai immigration first. Sure enough, thai immigration told me i could not go back the same day. This was a new rule put in place a week before i did this and is intended to keep people from using land crossings as a means to extend stays. They already have the 2 times a year rule so i guess this was to add more fun to it.

Whether this is still in effect or not, i do not know. But there was a Cambodian guy taunting me when i walked from the exit right back to the entrance to go back saying i can't go back and he was right so a lot of people were caught off guard with this. I plan to do another run near the end of the year so i hope i can find out beforehand if this was some kind of BS they pulled on tourists for a little while or is actually a new law people aren't talking about yet.

Like I said, border runs to Cambodia when using travel agencies are done same as always. There are no new law as far as I know. It would have been mentioned online. Which border crossing did you use?

Aranyaprathet Gate

Yes, i expected to see people talking about this change online. I certainly didn't imagine that it happened to me though.

Normally Aranyaprathet/Poipot is the easiest crossing.

I noticed a review put on the Aranyaprathet/Poipot gate listing on google from just 4 weeks ago complaining about Thailand not allowing re-entry same day. He claims after 3 hours of negotiating with a "good reason" that he was able to get them to allow entry but I think it's likely that if you cross on your own without an agency, you should expect that you need to stay over for 1 night. I'm doing a border run on my own in a few weeks and I won't even bother trying to cross back same day, considering my last experience in June. I would expect to see more people complaining about this so maybe it's more of a hit or miss with the officer you get?
