I'd like to find work in Thailand

Haitijack

Hello!!

My name is Jeremie. I'm currently in Florida but am interested in checking out the area for an extended period of time. I've traveled and lived on every continent except Asia and Australia so I'm an experienced traveler who prefers roughing it more than needs the standard amenities.

I'd like to find work in Thailand. I can teach English I guess. I have a strong background in hospitality, mainly restaurants and bars. Over 20yrs in the business.

I would appreciate anyone's initial thoughts and suggestions.

Thank you in advance!!

-Jeremie

Finding work in Thailand for foreigners is probably more difficult than most countries, as they are very much protective of their local workers. You'll have to have a very specific skill that Thai people don't possess in order to find employment. And even then, your salary would only be enough to cover your basic expenses. Teaching English is probably the more likely opportunity, but you will need more qualifications than just being a native English speaker. Anyway I wish you good luck with your adventure.

Btw it would be MUCH easier for you to get employment in Australia than in Thailand. Just FYI...

There are actually official minimum wages for foreigners working in Thailand for Thai or foreign companies.

OR

If you're self-employed there are minimum limits depending on nationality.

Well that's just another reason why it's almost impossible to find a job in Thailand as Foreigner...Why would an employer pay someone 50k while he can pay 10k a month for a Thai person to do the job. Unless the foreigner is capable to do something the Thai person can't do...

Foreigners normally have better education and experience. Many large companies hires for example foreign accountants. A Thai might get ฿30k/month and a foreigner a minimum of ฿50-60k/month. Almost every insurance company have some foreigners working there.
