Contact lenses

Jamison123

Hi, I'll be moving to Tuy Hoa in a few weeks. Where in Vietnam can I get contact lenses? I need them for astigmatism (preferably monthly Bausch and Lomb). How does the cost generally compare to the US? My google search hasn't turned up much info. I'm deciding if I should just bring a ton with me or if they are more affordable over there.

1. TIP: when your Google search for anything in Vietnam turns up empty, translate your search query into Tiếng Việt with the Google translate app and try again.

If you are giving Google location permission, it may very well try to restrict your search to your physical location and not the country of Vietnam.

Ideally, anyone searching for information inside Vietnam while they are outside of Vietnam would do well to use a VPN to show your location as Vietnam.

Combine that with a query in Tiếng Việt and you will be much more likely to get an accurate search result such as this Google Maps Link:

2. There is a common misperception that everything is cheaper in Vietnam.

Many things are much more affordable, such as locally grown fruits and vegetables and meats and fish and seafood and custom-made clothing.

Also, there are many made-in-Vietnam items which are significantly cheaper here, such as television sets.

Certain brands of guitars such as Epiphone (which is now made exclusively in China) are cheaper here in Vietnam than they are in the United States, due to lower shipping charges and different import fee structures.

But when you start searching for brand specific results--looking for something that has to be imported into Vietnam--then the price is generally going to be higher.

That's not always the case if you happen to live somewhere where there are significant tariffs on the items you seek and the same item has fewer import charges here in Vietnam.

But in general, expect things that are not made in Vietnam to be more expensive here than they are in the country where they are originally manufactured.

You also may be pleasantly surprised with comparable made in Southeast Asia or China products.

For instance, I've always used Accu-Chek blood sugar testing units and strips.

A brand commonly sold here in pharmacies is proving to be just as accurate, and significantly cheaper than attempting to import my old brand.

I'm saying that because if you do a little homework here especially in groups where people can share their experiences, you may find that there is a cheaper contact lens alternative that satisfies the needs of most people.

Good luck!

I see on the Bausch and Lomb website that they do not have an official outlet in Vietnam. They do have an outlet just a couple of doors over in Thailand, though.

A very popular online shopping site (lazada.vn), similar to Amazon, has a number of B & L products listed. I don't wear contacts, so is all I can provide. You might want to take a look to see whether any of the products listed there suit your need.
