After reading reviews on this forum I decided to go to D... T.... on 221 Le Thanh Ton to get some shirts made. I told them that I'll order just the one for starters and if I like it I'll put in an order for another six... The ordering / measuring process was fine... The slightly higher prices didn't bother me, nor the ten day wait... They also assured me that if I needed any alterations etc then they would be accommodating...
Fast forward ten days... Tried on my finished shirt today and it was a little too tight under the arms and around the back, thus when I lifted my arms up the sleeves would retreat too far back up forearms.
I realise that some styles of shirts are meant to be a 'close' fit and perhaps when ordering I should have communicated to them more clearly that I like a bit of room in those areas - or them being tailors perhaps they should have asked me...
Anyway, when I calmly and politely mentioned (it was certainly not a complaint) to the guy that it was too tight here and there he abruptly crossed his arms and said "NO". I said, "I mean.."--"NO!" he said again and went to the till, got the 600,000 Dong deposit I'd made previously and almost threw it at me then disappeared to the back of the shop. The other lady who was there just ignored me and fixed her gaze at the computer screen.
Thus, I, the customer, was left abandoned standing in front of the mirror, completely dumbfounded, and barely able to register what had just happened and why?
Although I wasn't satisfied with the shirt, it wasn't a disaster. With a few alterations here and there it would have worked out fine. In addition, due to the miscommunication during the ordering process (don't like my shirts too tight in those areas), if they were willing to make the alterations that were needed (and were assured me when ordering) and/or make another shirt, I would have happily gone next door, picked my fabrics, and immediately placed an order for another six shirts.
But alas, we never got that far as the owner / employees of Dung Tailors deemed it to be egregiously wrong for their paying customer to request an alteration. It was if I had mortally wounded his/their pride – how dare I question their workmanship, when all I wanted was to discuss some adjustments needed for my current order and future order(s)…
As I was now the invisible man to these people, bewildered, I headed for the door. When opening the door, the guy in question reappeared in the back of the shop and I calmly but sarcastically said, "thank you for your wonderful and thoughtful service". And I kid you not, he smiled at me and said, "Thank you, you are welcome".
And I really thought the service in this country was improving...
To sum up the service offered at D... T...in three words: PETULANT and APPALLING!
